The wheeling scrum has long been a pet hate of mine, simply because there seems to be no real way of determining whether the stronger scrum is dominating or the weaker one is not taking the hit and pushing on one side. It becomes a subjective decision by the ref and invariably leads to dispute amongst the fans as to whether it was a correct decision or not. Imo scrums should push in a forward direction only and any wheel should be penalised if fault can be found.

It seems a lot of refs agree with you. Which is a pity. Wheeling is a perfectly legal way of disrupting opposition ball that rewards good scrummaging. In the example you give above (where you can't tell if the strong scrum is going forward or the weak scrum pulling back) in either case surely the right thing is to reward the scrum driving through the opposition tight head. A scrum wheels up the looseheads side so, if your suggestion is followed the ref may well spend all day penalising the person who is doing his job best. In what way is that fair.

As far as I know it has always been legal. However, deliberately pulling one side of the scrum backwards to make it wheel quickly is illegal.

I'm with you. There's nothing in the laws about wheeling being illegal.

Law 20.11

(a) If a scrum is wheeled through more than 90 degrees, so that
the middle line has passed beyond a position parallel to the
touchline, the referee must stop play and order another scrum.​

(b) This new scrum is formed at the place where the previous scrum ended. The ball is thrown in by the team not in possession at the time of the stoppage. If neither team win possession, it is thrown in by the team that previously threw it in.

I can't find anything in the scrum laws which even remotely says you can't pull back either. I just think that the refs have decided it needs to be penalised. I'm at a loss to work out what law they are interpreting to do so.

Every side should have an away strip, but I realise that money is an issue there, but would have been that difficult for the refs to wear, blue, red, white or even a darker green?

I disagree, The ARU should not allow similar jerseys, forget about two strips, just manage the competition to only allow clubs approved colors that will never clash.

QRU really dropped the ball a bit last night with prep for this game.

Ticket and beers lines were far too long. Food options were abysmal.

They should just let street market vendors set up shop at ballymore and charge them a flat rate to operate. Would be a far better option food wise than the dross they serve from the canteen, and would also add a bit more atmosphere to the games.

Whilst the price for food and beer was as usual high for a stadium. I got to Ballymore with 30mins before kick off and managed to buy my food and beer and sit and eat it by the time the ref blew his whistle. I wouldn't be able to do that at a Reds game at suncorp. No one likes to wait but I didn't think it was worth complaining about.

Anyone know how far from the scrum the defending 9 can be without having to be behind the hind-most foot like everyone else in the back line? First thing I thought of when I heard about this particular ELV was the Wing Forward position employed by NZ along with their 2-3-2 scrum formation, until the Brits decided the WF was by definition offside & made their 3-4-1 formation mandatory. If the 9 is allowed to stand anywhere in line with the mid-point of the scrum I can see some big problems arising.
