Isn't the HC role (for the Reds) decided on today and announced in 2 weeks? Would tie in with announcing the NRC squad and coaches in Aug!

I think they'll try and keep the announcements separate, they usually try and space announcements like that out to ensure a constant supply of material for the jounos to keep articles on rugby in the papers.

WTF...!! How did Brothers manage to win the premiership with such an obviously poor backline. Only 1 back across both city and country squads.

probably on the back of their pack with 7 reps.

But you also have to ask, how many made themselves available for selection?

Felsman would've been a definite pick in my mind, but perhaps it didn't want to play?

I actually like the look of this team once again, look a little short of depth at lock, but experience elsewhere in the forward pack.

Backline will probably be missing Kerevi, but still has the backbone of the 2015 team.

Aumua and Toby white a two big centers so if Samu is away with the wallabies they should still be able to play the same game plan. Keen to see Hunt play 12 for an extended period

yeah, the team has bounced back well.

I agree with Hunt as a 12 option, meaning something like:

15 Laloifi
14 Lacey
13 Gibbon
12 Hunt
11 Kuridrani

et al

Not sure who will partner Tui at lock, but I didn't know Ben Hyne and Corey Thomas in 2015 nor Marco Kotze in 2014.

Probably the same way Maclean Jones continues to get picked for everything going. Hes never done anything on a rugby field since school. Never played colts, straight into Reds squads and U20s, a few prem grade games and now NRC. Ive watched most of those games and never heard his name called or seen him do anything.!
(apparently Jack De Guingand who has has excelled for uni this year, won premierships with Syd Uni and HK Harlequins, declared his desire to play for Country was told "oh no Maclean Jones has that spot, youll have to play for City").
Same goes for Magnay, both Tuttles (don't get me started), Sorovi, Fakosilea, Mason et al.
These little "princes" have been "groomed" since school days, never had to even train in the rain let alone earn their stripes, and been promised greatness. They've all been thrown in the deep end and told "well done darling" as they tread water.
(At Least Paddy James, and Jake Strachan to some extent, has paid his dues through club rugby.)
I'm surprised they haven't picked Alex Horan, but then Ive heard he's going to the Brumbies.

Nepotism, old school tie, jobs for the boys, take your pick!

Then at the other end of the scale its a paycheck for retirees like Moore.

I feel really sorry for the guys like Felsman. Its no wonder our glorious Reds are so shit....

LMR while I agree with your sentiment in principle (and can confirm what you heard about Jack de Guigand) I think you could have chosen better examples...
- Magnay played prem colts for GPS in his first year out of school. Couldn't crack prems because he was behind Samu Kerevi. Furthermore, he's played for GPS whenever he's been available with U20's commitments. James Tuttle has an identical story.
- Sorovi played for Uni an every opportunity he had this year, including copping being relegated to Reserve grade in the finals for Scott Gale on the chin, turning in some MoM performances and doing well off the bench for prems.
- Mason and Tuttle the elder both played league after school. That said, I agree that they shouldn't have been parachuted into rep sides upon their return, though Tuttle played as much as possible for Norths after his shoulder recon before finding himself in the Reds due to injury crisis.
- Junior Fakaosilea is maybe a fair point.

I guess I just don't see the point in holding these guys selection in QLD/Aus 20's/other rep sides and subsequent reduced club rugby exposure against them, especially given most of the ones you named have participated where they have been able to.

I will say I think Paddy James and Strahan are good players and have been made better by their time in club footy.
