Well, well well. I used to really enjoy watching the reds play but they were oh so woeful tonight. I will not be tipping them again this year after such a let down tonight...in my tipping and for a Golden week holiday here in Tokyo.
They looked like they had no passion, no heart and looked flat (or 'limp' as the commentators said).
I guess there will be a lot of crowing for Richard Graham's head, and he must bear some of the blame, but he is not being helped by his players. Penalty magnet and bone-head Rob Simmons just doesn't get it and just keeps giving away needless easy metres for dumb things. Slipper's tip (once a fantastic tackle but no longer I'm afraid James) was just dumb. Then you have your two leaders in James Horwill and Quade Cooper, hopelessly out of form. They just didn't seem to be in the game and certainly lacked the passion I would expect from a leader in my team. In the third try set up by Nonu, Horwill jogged beside Nonu and then could have reached out and tackled the guy Nonu passed it to but showed a complete lack of heart and passion...not someone to lead the team out of a slump in my book. Harsh? ...Maybe. I think he would only be 4th or 5th best lock in Oz at the moment (with Jones way ahead of him & even Neville played better than him tonight).
And Quade is a sorry shadow of the player he was in 2010/2011. The constant forward passes out to his wide men are getting a bit much. He seems bereft of ideas at times. I honestly cannot see him beating To'omua to No. 10 in the Aussie side. For Oz's sake I hope he doesn't.
Rod Davies is fast...but that's it. He has nothing.
And the mistake by the replacement half that led to an intercept try was a school boy error. No, that's being harsh on schoolboys. It looked like the kind of pass that would be thrown by a bunch of soccer players playing rugby for the first time.
The only positives for the Reds were the performances of Quirk, Gill, CFS (despite the short stint), and Harris. Defense was OK for the most part I guess but attack was poor. A special mention to Ben Daley. He had a great game when he came on...just a pity he has a rep. for being a poor scrummager. Genia was much better too but started to meerkaat in the second half.
One more thing...aren't the Blues good at taking up the space behind the ruck on the opposition's side? They got penalised for it a few times but got away with it quite a bit too.
