ah good point. I always assume these tall backrowers can jump. Surely Wilson and Naisa can add this to their game.

I hope Wright can step it up it up. My thoughts on him throughout Super XV was he was a bit small and lacked a bit of strength for Test rugby, but then I changed my mind during the finals where he really stepped it up. Then it all came crashing down again on his last Test. He looked totally out of his depth and even got stripped by a halfback. I back him to bounce back but maybe he needs another year or two in the gym.

Wilson can jump he just doesn't at the Reds. Liam Wright is about the same height and can get up quicker and the Reds use Wilson in the backline a lot.

How does anything that happened in general play have to do with the number of his back?

This is such a bizarre premise that the general play that saw him not getting selected again would be different if he had a different jersey number.

Hooper is clearly our best 7 and has been among our best players in all three tests. I really can't see him being dropped.

Isn't it sad that such a great player has had his position question his entire career. I can understand some of it with Poey but a lot of it has been unjustified. IMVHO

From my memory, most of the issues in the lineout came from the jumper just being a goober in the wet and dropping the ball. I don’t think it justifies making personnel changes.

I think dropping daugunu and giving Wright a run makes sense.

I would drop Hanigan though and put Wilson at 6 and Samu at 8.

JOC (James O'Connor) definitely at 10 and would hunter at 12. I would drop irae and put maddocks on the bench with hodge.

Add Hodge at 15 and agree Maddocks on the bench.

I think they will keep Simone at 12. JOC (James O'Connor) looked much better with To'omua outside him than he did when Paisami came in at 12. Of course Paisami is a bit more aggressive/solid in defence but is not such a good option at first receiver.

Daugunu had a shocker starting with that damn tackle (which he has a propensity to do), then a loose offload or two and that dropped highball went to shit fast. But he was MOM in the first game, by some margin according to many.

I'd persevere.

Tom Wright in the 'A' game did some great stuff in attack but goes missing in the little things. He chased poorly on occasions, was lazy in defense and did't contribute much more than those runs. I though Ramm was better without the metres made. I'd be more inclined to go him to be honest.

I feel like a lot of the potential changes come down to how much Rennie wants to give a crack to a new player versus thinking he has his best players and should persist with them.

There's obviously more depth/closer contents in certain positions than others. Was the Daugunu vs Wright selection close before the first test or did Rennie think that Daugunu was a clear choice there? If it's the former we might see Wright, otherwise we'll probably see Daugunu again.

Samu is the most obvious one who wasn't a clear first choice for Rennie because he got dropped after not doing much wrong in the first test. Seems Rennie likes the balance of the backrow better with Hanigan, Hooper, Wilson but will be interesting to see whether we get that for the third time in a row.

I think Simone would be a better defender then Paisami at 12. Paisami gets caught out of position too often. Both are capable of big hits (although paisami probably does this more often).

I like the idea of JOC (James O'Connor) 10 Simone 12.

He is probably the closest to To'omua that we have and he is a true 12. With a bit more go forward ball and protection from the pack we might see a little more of what he can do.

If we're not stealing lineouts, why keep Hanigan?

I think he's been solid. His workrate has been good and surprisingly, so has his ball carrying.

I'm not against trying someone else and perhaps LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) being out makes that more enticing but I wouldn't be dropping him based on performance.

I think Hosea off the bench in the instance where LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) is out at a minimum.

I'm not 100% against keeping Hanigan, but we've got multiple options in the lineout and we're not ahead on the ledger there, while the ABs seem to be picking us apart as the game goes on, so why?

My Smokey for 6 is Valetini. We lose some grunt with LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) most likely out and Simmons will replace him. Beef up the carrying and defence with V.

Yep, we need to add some physicality to the backrow........... let's send him out there with the intention of smashing rucks and AB ball runners.

I wouldn't mind seeing Wright given a second chance at well, but let's not pack him at no 8 again.

Do we, though? My impression of the game on Saturday was that our issue wasn't physicality at all. When the play slowed down we put on plenty of hits, and our forward ball-running was solid enough.

Our issues in defence came when play broke down, so instead of physicality I'd be looking at blokes who can think in defence and make good decisions. And in reality the Hanigan-Hooper-Wilson backrow was pretty good at that, the issues came away from that.

I like Valetini, but I'm not sure he's the answer to the many questions that were posed on Saturday.

FWIW I'd be siding with stability and picking the same XV, though I'd bring in JOC (James O'Connor) (for Lolesio) and I'd think about Tate for White.

Yeah, I thought our defence in phase play was generally good, we were making the gainline more than NZ according to Foxsports stats.

We really need to sort out the ruck. Too many times we turn over the ball after making a bust. For all the talk of the Kiwi referees creaking down on the breakdown the laws seem to be more loosely applied than they were last year and NZ are exploiting them a lot better.

It seemed that every Wallaby ruck was under pressure while our backrow was often as not missing in action. At AB ruck, we had very few players contesting the ball. But others say our backrow isn't a problem. It is not the problem but it is a significant problem that contributed to so much possession being owned by the ABs. It needs to be beefed up and be instructed to hit rucks with determination.
