Bledisloe #4 New Zealand vs Australia Nov 7 2020

In comparison Owen Farrell only got 5 weeks for full coat-hanging some-one and knocking them out. And with his history.

The inconsistency is what frustrates me most.

Yep, but we have to stop getting so frustrated, even in normal law 2 people can commit a murder etc and get completely different sentences, and although we get a bit pissed it is a fact of life that all offences are not exactly the same.

I am guessing (and only guessing) that defence that will be used for Ofa , is that he got hit in the face by Wright's forearm just before contact. I not suggesting it a valid argument so don't get upset, but it is exactly why Jordie Barrett was Yellow carded in previous test?

Man, both Ofa and Lachlan full intended to flatten the ball carrier. Ofa was possibly more "responsible" in that there was an attempt to wrap, but he still set himself to iron the guy out.

Swinton had the same intent but was completely reckless, in my opinion.

They need to look at this card and suspension system. He was given a red and all agree that this was the correct call as per the current laws and directives. But a suspension through to Feb next year? That’s crazy! There was no ill intent in either of the red card tackles. They were lazy and not accurate enough but they were not intentionally high. Ofa is contesting his. Wonder what he will get?
The red should have been enough. If only one side had received a red card that would most likely have been the game.

I don't think Tu'ungafasi is necessarily contesting his. The foul play review committee has progressed the matter to a full judiciary hearing which suggests a heavier sentence is likely.

Swinton was suspended for four games. It's the last two tests of the year and two preseason games. There are no other games in between.

It is still a heavy suspension. maybe he needs it to temper his aggression? It was a matter of inches, for both tackles.

"up to and including 6 Feb"

No mysterious internal trials etc.

My Kiwi neighbour is ropable, told me that those were both soft reds, neither should have been given, and "that's the reason people are watching the NRL and AFL".

My own personal opinion (and I know we have covered this elsewhere pretty fully) is that a red should remove the offending player from the match, but that his team should be able to put a replacement on after 10 minutes.

That would be punishment enough IMHO.

I agree, a red card ruins the game and the spectacle for the fans.

Ironically, Swinton getting a red and evening up the teams made the game more enjoyable to watch.

Neither were soft Reds! He's probably just seen too many refs bottle it when faced with a Kiwi having to be dismissed.

Both were shoulder directly to the neck/chin area and both tacklers went in very hard. Given the potential for head injury, the red cards were exactly right. I hope this continues until all players get the message that head-hunting will get you an early shower. Tacklers have been told by WR (World Rugby) they must aim their tackles mid-chest or lower and not slip up, why are they such slow learners?

I also thought both decisions were okay, the officials take enough time to make their minds up these days, it is unlikely that they would all be wrong. My neighbour is normally pretty realistic about rugby, but he was pretty cranky.

Absolutely right. There is nothing worse than beating the buggers when they are down a man. Maybe that is the real meaning of the "no win situation"!

On rewatching the game, it's clear to me that our kicking played an enormous role in our victory.

It was a textbook 'how to beat the All Blacks' game. Kicks were either contestable, or deep and into touch. I didn't keep a count but we were almost perfect in this regard. It's genuinely the best I've ever seen us kick. Combine that with our better handling and we only gave the ABs a couple of broken field opportunities in the whole 80 minutes.

Nic White was a big part of it. I didn't love his game on first watch, but his box kicking was really good. It's a clear tactic and a hallmark of the Rennie era - utilising an accurate, contested kick as a slow ball option when in our own half.

It's just so refreshing to see a tactic that clearly makes sense, and we've clearly practised it a bunch. And just miles better than the Cheika 'let's run it in our own half and damn the consequences cos we're Ozzies maaate'.

Add to that the boot of Hodge which was outstanding as always, but also a few nice kicks from Banks and Paisami (one misguided grubber aside).

I'm not going to pretend this is a sign of a new era of dominance, but in these four games we've shown that our game plan is good enough to beat the ABs if we turn up on the day and play well. Dare I say we've played smarter (in games 1 and 4) than the ABs. And I don't think we've been able to say that for a long while.

A win is a win is a win is a win. If they end up getting red carded, that's their fault. This isn't park footy where its a snap decision made in the heat of the moment for punching a bloke - this is a clear framework operating as it should.

Consider this: World Rugby is very aware of the risk posed by concussion, not just to the players, but in terms of the legal threat it faces if it isn't seen to be doing something about it. Look at the number of NFL players in the US with CTE - anyone want to do this?

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-07...trip-predictions-decade-in-two-years/10056496

More than $US500 million in claims have been approved under the NFL's concussion settlement, nearly a decade earlier than league officials estimated they would reach that amount.

Claims administrators in the settlement released an updated report on the concussion settlement information website saying about $US502 million ($676.63 million) had been approved in less than two years of the settlement. ...

That Kiwi neighbour of wamberal's can fuck off and watch loig if he wants where cockheads like Cameron Smith can whack a bloke in the neck for no penalty.

I think Scotty Stevenson tweeted it best
