5 players at most: Tupou, Ala'alatoa, Wilson, Petaia & LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) at a stretch.

Tupou is the only certainty, the others might make the bench at best.

Petaia and Wilson would still be paying their dues in Super Rugby and would be earmarked as the future 8 & 13 after completing their development.

No hail-mary starts at centre in a world cup knock out game for the All Blacks.

Petaia would be what Ioane is for NZ (if Reiko didn't exist), in the 23 jersey covering wing & centre. Wilson would be what Sotutu/A.Ioane/Grace is for NZ. They'd either get 20 minutes off the bench or possibly starts against Argentina.

It’s really not. You just appear to love to be negative.

Which is your right, but maybe you should choose not to watch anymore. I honestly think you should consider it. You appear not to enjoy rugby at any level, so why put yourself through it.
Thought about this a fair bit and you are right. I haven't enjoyed any international Rugby in ages. I think i will take a break.

I've just driven 4 hours to get home and to say I am deflated and disappointed is an understatement. It's a pretty expensive exercise for me so I can't do it too many times a year, and due to covid and a lack of alternatives I singled this game out for the annual family rugby experience. I'm not going to go to all that effort to sit in the cheap seats up the back, so the 4 tickets were pretty expensive, then there's a 2 bedroom apartment on an 'event weekend', plus fuel, meals and 2 days out of my life. And the whole purpose was for entertainment, but it was far from that. TBH I actually now wish I targeted the game v the Pumas at Bankwest, at least we might win that one.

Not having a go at the players, they can only play as good as they can, but I can understand why the public are tuning out. Something has to change, maybe just a simple home and away Bledisloe series is a good start, and schedule more games v teams in the 4-10 band, where we sit in the middle of.

Everything has to change or nothing will change.

Until the whole structure of the game is reformed and the deadwood culled, this is the new normal.

Finally got the energy to watch the game after not having a chance at the time and being pretty depressed at the result.

I find myself a little surprised. The centre pairing was a major target for the ABs, especially in the first half. And our kicking effectiveness was no where close to the ABs. I’d put both Hodge and Paisami as superior overall to the starters, but there seemed little choice in the LoLo selection and Simone has enough class to keep building.

2 players really stood up - BPA (who surely has his initials on #2) and, wow am I saying it, Simmons.

This team needs few changes for Bled #4. Let both Lolo and Simone enter from the bench. I see the front row, bar Hooker, as interchangeable. BPA plays 80 other than injury. Our line out immediately failed once he was rested.

DHP is NOT a favourite of mine at all but I’ll pay that game. Did everything that Banks doesn’t and not not much in it for what Banks actually does.

Loose forwards work as is for me, no change including the least effective, Hanigan. Similar scenarios for 9, White it is, Tate though sticks.

From a state of rigorous despondency, I look forward to the final Bled. We won’t win it, but the #7 ranking (where we started) is accurate and from that point there are some bones developing in this squad.

I’d rather win to be sure, or lose by less, but let’s see where Rennie and crew can take us.

I have been very encouraged by the form of BPA.

It does seem to give some substance to a comment attributed to BPA about him being helped by the fact that the Wallabies lineout structure is more straight forward then the Reds lineout. By extension, if he can bring some of that back to the Reds lineout I am hoping it can help Mafi get back to his best as they are both as good as anyone around the field.

BPA went ok in a poorly performing team, but he was atrocious in defense in the lead up to Mo'unga's first try.

A #2 defending against a #10 in space? It’s the ultimate mismatch that most coaches are trying to arrange. There is a reason for this.

It would have been more atrocious if Mo’unga didn’t beat him.

I’m not sure whether it was just an accident he was defending there or part of the Wallabies’ structures. Pretty disappointing if it was part of the defensive alignment, the Boks would likely have PSDT or Vermuelen posted there waiting to eat Richie.

Too many defenders went to the open. Although initially when the maul was set up it was close enough to the sideline that 2 defenders were possible, but the ABs drove it sideways first to open up more space. Unfortunately none of the Wallaby defenders recognised the problem except Nic White and is calls fell on deaf ears.

Makes no difference being a 2 defending against a 10. He just didn't make an attempt and that was atrocious. Lolesio made a totally ineffective attempt and too close to the tryline but it was an attempt and many are calling for him to be dropped. In the moment of the game Mo'unga was BPA's target. He should have done better.

That one issue has little to do with Lolo’s position in the team. BPA played a very good #2 possibly the best we have seen from a #2 this comp. LoLesio was asked to defend at #15 and consistently was poor, poorer even than his game time inexperience. Ofc playing #15 is not Lolesio’s responsibility. Attacking at #10 he played a fair but green #10 with promise. Much as we would expect.

We will see Lolesio back but there is nil chance he will be preferred over a half way fit JOC (James O'Connor). In fact I expect Hodge would start ahead of him. We will see LoLesio again, it isn’t really being dropped as much as managing his introduction. Which couldn’t be done with JOC (James O'Connor) and To'omua out.

In the mean time I very much hope BPA has locked a start, at least until his competition improve their #2 core skills.

It's called a mismatch and obtaining them is one of the main objectives in attack in rugby...

He potentially could have done better but it was very smart play by the ABs- very few front rowers make that tackle.

The replays always make it look like he was closer to being able to make an attempt than he was. In the end there's no point diving and still being two metres away from player running past him although it looks better on a replay because he made an attempt.

BPA probably should have done better but the mistake was made when Mo'unga did a stutter step back towards the inside and BPA changed his momentum in response. From there Mo'unga had heaps of room to run round him and BPA was never within a couple of metres of him.

At that point White needed to come in and force the pass to Jordie Barrett on the outside and hope that Lolesio could stop him with the touchline to assist him.

Looking back through the tries, they're mostly on the back of big defensive errors that we just can't afford to make.

You can tinker with players as much as you like but a lot went wrong with our defensive structures, workrate and just general heads up play around where we needed to be in defence.

1st try - we were a player down but the All Blacks ended up with about 5 on 1 on that side of the field. Multiple players just not having the awareness to flood that side of the field and number up.

2nd try - Mo'unga taking advantage of the mismatch with BPA but generally poor defensive efforts from BPA, White and Lolesio. We had three defenders vs two attackers and none of the defenders did anything good.

3rd try - Mo'unga off the B. Barrett chip kick. Assuming White was the sweeper, he was caught up making a tackle at the previous breakdown. Someone else needed to fill that role. Koroibete and Lolesio then completely ineffective at the back with neither laying a hand on Mo'unga.

4th try - maul try to Coles. Our maul defence was ineffective but the mistake is realistically giving the penalty leading to the 5m lineout to begin with.

5th try - Reiko Ioane in the corner after Sotutu took the ball from the back of the 5m scrum on the blindside. McReight was way too slow to come off the scrum so he didn't get close to stopping Sotutu so Koroibete came in off the wing leaving Ioane unmarked.

6th try - Jordie Barrett runs straight between Philip and Sio. Philip rushed out of the line disconnecting our defenders leaving Barrett a big hole to run through.

3 of those tries came out of nothing. 2 more of those tries the All Blacks had a 5m attacking set piece but we did zero to stop them from scoring. We have to be better than that.

Here's the issue for me: stupid errors and penalties gave the ABs field position and opportunities they otherwise shouldn't have had.

I know a couple of Kiwis who aren't interested in the scoreline - they are concentrating on that period after halftime where we stopped making stupid decisions and actually stuck it to them on defense.

As usual a thought provoking article from Nick. https://www.theroar.com.au/2020/11/04/how-rennies-wallabies-were-blindsided-in-bledisloe-3/

Somehow I suspect defence on the short side is only one piece of the puzzle. I don’t have an issue protecting a key player like 10. It does however require more grace than a barn dance.

It’s unlikely to fully address matters but Tate is pretty much the best tackling half I know and has even filled the wing from the bench quite successfully. I thought our kicking game was another big issue, if the solution is to ease off then White’s superior kicking game is less of an issue.
