All said and done - some decisions on wallabies selections some agreed with - some didn't agree with - including me.
But as a wallaby supporter I hope the selected team play out of their skins and do the jersey proud and prove the sections were a master stroke contrary to what we thought....

I was there & trust me, the first 40 was easily the best 40 of wet weather footy ever played by anyone anywhere. No one would've got within 20 of the AB that day: every 50/50 pass stuck, every 50/50 chip/ grubber/ whatever sat up & said "here you go".

I wasnt there, but watched it with a bunch of kiwi mates, its a game that really sticks in my mind, that was no mug Wallabies side either, but the AB's were playing at a different level - even for them.
I have watched some good performances by NH teams in appalling conditions, but none of them played that style of rugby in those conditions - because its not really possible to!

Very hard to beat Kiwi teams - even harder in the wet. This wasn't a bad Aussie team either.

Islander genealogy is complex. In ancient Tonga, people inherited their name, titles, land and people from their mother. Names could also change when people did something exceptional. Christianty introduced the concept of paternal surnames, but some modern Tongans use the maternal name in the old way, or change from one to the other during their lives. I remember Nadolo (who is Fijian) doing this. Perhaps Coleman is his mother's name?

The continuous flow of drivel comes from journalists, who ask leading questions, then attribute the words in the question to the player if they say "yes" to the question, and the reverse if they say "no". That's how rugby journalism works in Australia, unfortunately. The only solution is to stop players responding to questions. The coach complaining about the journalists only opens up a different can of re-usable worms.

In fairness to the players, I suspect that most would find being interviewed at these press conferences to be a somewhat unpleasant duty. I think as part of the broadcast agreement that teams have to make a player or players available for a set number of pressers, plus the coach.

Returning to Adam Coleman, I notice that he grew up in Tasmania, went to New Town High School, represented Tasmania in 14s, 16s and 18s and Southern States.

I was at that 1978 game in Christchurch, QH. Drove down from the ski fields in the morning to be confronted with sleet and drizzle, my heart sank. Added to the weather was a slew of injuries which severely hamstrung us. The only bright spot was Geoff Richards' debut when Paul McLean went off injured, he played quite well in difficult circumstances. Some time shortly after this match Daryl Harberecht suffered a heart attack resulting in the team coaching themselves. The result was the win in Auckland a fortnight later and Cornelsen's four tries.

I can only say that in my life time of watching the Wallabies (the early 1980's until now) we've been competitive almost the whole way through. We still are actually. It's just that we're in a trough right now that will take some effort to get out of.

I should also say that I remember that 1996 test in Wellington and I can scarcely recall a better performance by any side in such conditions. It was one for the ages.
