So you are planning to be bigger than Chris Kerisiano ?

Smaller actually - lots of camping planned for this winter :)

Are you hanging up the boots then Nick? Any word on whether the Renegades will be fielding a 3rd grade side this year as my wife and I are looking to move into the Seven Hills / Blacktown area and was contemplating which club to play for.

Was driving down Anzac Parade this morning and saw the Tahs at Moore Park; so made a turn and watch them for a while - just me, 2 dogs, and Phil Blake picking up coaching tips for his Manly blue filth.

Beale looks big but he looked big last year and it doesn't seem to have affected his mobility, though playing in a game is the only real test. Tuqiri looked like a million dollars, but he always does at training and Turner did everything hunky dory, ditto.

Burgess still can't pass with his right hand and I think that half his problem is facing the receiver as he picks up the ball instead of squatting side on as he picks it up and sweeping it left with a co-ordinated body turn - much like a golfer on the down swing.

The forwards stood around for half an hour listening to Foley telling them how to scrummage, which was as boring as batshit to watch; so I went back to watch the backs then practising up-and-unders to a point on the ground and charging the receiver.

The less said about the execution the better.

Any sign of Rob Horne Lee? I have seen and heard pretty much zero about him since that U20 side. I don't think he played any club after that, I have haven't heard any official reports on him.

If fit, he would have damn close to that Wallaby tour. Probably deserved to be there ahead of JOC (James O'Connor) to be honest.

Sounds like the Tahs skills work hasn't changed then.

I'm one who won't be training this year... having had a long time to think about it over the break, I've decided I'm just plain pissed off that I sacrificed all that time on the training paddock and at games last year only to get 20 minutes on some weeks, and then barely any time in the finals. I'm all for being a good club man, but only if everyone else is too. When the "you don't train = you don't play" rule goes out the window, well... fuck 'em.

Toys...pram?

Stick at it mate. Get fitter, get stronger and make it impossible for them not to pick you.

Yep - toys well out of the pram. Its worth pointing out that I got left behind several blokes who were nowhere near as fit and/or strong as I was last season too.

The other factor of course is my wife being pissed off with my absence every Saturday - however in a stunning move last night she turned that around and said it wasn't the playing so much, but the long hours spent designing the website and editing video during the rest of the week.

Aussie D - there is going to be a player meeting on Saturday week to decide on teams for this year. Several of the boys are really keen on putting together three sides and I'm all for it. I've always said I'd be happy to play two games a week in the lower grades. If you're not busy:

Surely he has been practising this skill every day for the last few years, knowing it is the main problem with his game! Surely he has received specialised coaching to improve this aspect of his play.

To borrow another golf analogy, if I was playing or practising golf every day and didn't manage to improve say my bunker play, then I'd be seriously doubting my ability to ever do so.

Like Beale, Horne didn't play any club rugby in 2008 and Carter's appearance was brief. I didn't hear anything about how or when Horne was injured - all I can say for sure is that he couldn't be selected for the Tahs EOYT to Fiji because he was crocked.

I watched the backs for a while yesterday and Horne spent all his time talking to SNK sitting down whilst half the backs were doing playbook exercises. Intense huh?

He was suited up to practice though.

That Barbarians game would have been good for Robbie had he been picked to tour and fit, but I reckon that he'll make the next EOYT though not the squads before that. Unless he has 2nd year syndrome of course.

Meanwhile Cliffy Palu says he a certainty to be starting in Round 1 of the S14 after arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder before Christmas.

Palu is still a couple of weeks away from full contact work but he said he was ahead of schedule.

"I'm aiming to get back for the last trial game against the Brumbies. The shoulder feels good and is healing really well. You can always get injuries but I'm confident of starting the year and getting through the season."

I think I've heard that before from all kinds of sportsmen and women in all kinds of sports yet I've seen their chronic injuries recur time and time again (said LG tautologically.)

I hope the Tahs medical staff are looking after Cliffy's long term interests and didn't forgo a more serious operation and longer term recovery for the sake of the 2009 S14 season.

Shoulder injuries are prone to reoccur. Let's home he isn't rushed into anything.
