I don't understand why Deans persists with MMM at lock when Mumm is at 6.

Mumm is a better scrummager plays tighter and harder, if both are played stick Mumm at lock :angryfire:

If Steyn and Cooper get injured, it looks like we could have 4 halfbacks on the field. Unless Deans plays Mitchell or AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) at 10?

I agree. Maybe Deans seen 3M as a lock in the long run. Mumm is still mobile enough for 6.

Who wouldn't pick McM at lock and Mumm at 6? Everyone was bawling that Al Kannar (196cms) was too short for lock and now they want Mumm there.

It's just that McM still sucks at locking. Which is why he has fallen a bit in my regard. I would pick Mumm above him in both positions.

Mumm pushes in the scrum and should pack at lock. How they split the lineout work and tight work is a different question.

At 4cm taller and 5kg heavier, if MMM can't push harder in scrums than Mumm he needs a good kick up the clacker. Failing any improvement, a spot on the pine.

For those of you not old enough, two of the best ever games of Rugby, NZ v the Baa Baa's 1971 and Aust vs Baa Baas when Andrew Slacks team took the Grand slam and the Baa Baa's - great month that.

the NZ v Baa Baas match was actually in early 1973
I happened to be over there at the time, but for various reasons couldnt make it to the match
sorry for being pedantic

Blue; you think that Smit's future is at tight head? Are there plans for him to stay there after the EOYT?

If Smit gets a mortgage on your 3 jersey, I'm sure you Saffas could let us borrow a few tight heads for 10 or 20 years...

Do I think it's right? No. But Puppet has shown his hand and it looks likely that Smit will feature a lot at 3 in future. it is very much a move to prolong his career because you can't leave Bismarck on the bench. The best thing that could happen is for Smit to play regularly at 3 for the Sharks next year and hopefully the lines of communication from the Boks to the Sharks is in place (which I guess they should be with Muir in the Bok setup). That means we could see Smit rotating in and out of 3 and 2 with the two du Plessis brothers. It could be a very good thing that we have four Sharks (Beast, Bismarck, Smit and Jannie) playing fifteen (yes not 13 :) Super 14 games together next year and the whole lot move into green from there with Mujati added to the bench.

So yeah I think the plan is there to keep him there until we see otherwise (it's SA so who the fark knows). I think it could work out ok and don't think he will ever really dominate anybody but he will more than hold his own. The unit of the Fishie 4 is they key here and that could work out well for the next RWC.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Wallabies show off their "licence to thrill". ;D Does it mean we'll bring back mauling ?

Agree with you and the same go with Pienaar & Steyn in 10 for the Guppies. I read somewhere Plumtree want to rotate them in the position. Its important they do this and this will help them a lot with the burn out issue also.

Maybe I am on the wrong thread here but the big 3 franchises in SA (Sharks/Bulls/Stormers) is getting in this position that they can rotate and give experiense players a bit of a break and bring in some talented youngsters. The Cheetahs & Lions will struggle to put on a compatable run on 15 in 2009.

Can us Queensland residents count on some of you guys to post scores every now and then tomorrow morning.
Appreciated if you can.

Sure, but I type really slowly, so I'm sure I won't keep up with the scoring in a Baa-baas match. Plus it'll be really early, and I'm not a morning person! ;) Us folk down south are always happy to help you poor folk up north - you just need to ask!

Lee and I can remember a thing or two from long ago - we have the occasional flash of recall. :)

As Tune and Woods mentioned pre-game - I hope Oz gets the advantage of training together for a longer time than their illustrious opponents. They are going to need every break they can get - though the RWC champs, the Boks, lost to the Baa Baas last year.

3M and Chiz as the lock pairing looks particularly vulnerable, but I have to admit that Chiz did a lot better on tour than I gave him credit for before it started. I hope that Bakkies is gentle. IMO he was the best player of any team (SH or NH) during the various EOYTs.

Prediction? JdV to intercept a Quade Cooper pass and score a try.
