Tahs beat Reds therefore Tahs are better than Reds, when i posted that the tahs beat a side the brumbies struggled to by plenty, people said it was cos it was the second week of there road trip blah blah etc etc, so one set of rules, head to head. Tahs are better

WJ, I tend to agree with you that there can be no end of excuses or explanations put forward for why one team wins, why one team beats a team the other couldn't, why one team scored lots of points and another didn't, but in the end the competition table is a pretty good reflection of performance over a season (the score board doesn't lie).

On the team of the round (and to some extent season), I think these Reds would have to make at least the 22: Genia, Hynes, Ioane, Cooper. By the end of the season I may be inclined to add a couple of the forwards too, but not just yet.

Wow, Noddy. Unbelievable how many you reeled in with that very obvious joke, particularly when you were having a go a Qld attitudes (or the perception of them) rather than actually talking about NSW.

Biffo and Lindommer should be particularly ashamed!

Read my first para and apologise. Didn't get the irony in "took a while, didn't it?", did you. :huxley on you.

I agree, still very early on on the season, at present the only change to the team from the EOYT would be Ioane.
The Reds have only won 3 games and there has been very inconsistent performances from the Tahs and Brumbies.
The Force, well better nothing said.

So, you finally reversed the (very valid) criticism of Qlander attitudes by Tah supporters for many, many years. Took a while

Show me one (i.e. one) Tah fan who ever claimed success for a season on the sole criterion of beating Queensland. Even if you find one, you will have an impossibly long way to travel to reach "typical".

I have met very few Tah supporters who viewed Qland's rugby team as any more than just another team in the year's program. Tah supporters know and understand that four points for beating Qland is no more and no less than the four points for beating any other team.

Biffo,

I saw you first paragraph (above) and I understood that you knew he was turning the old criticism around. No, I didn't get the irony in 'took a while' - and to be honest I still don't!

It further confused me when, in your second and third paragraphs you go on to argue Noddy's point? If you understood Noddy's sarcasm and was being ironic right back at him, then why argue the content of his post? It sounds/reads defensive.

But if anyone else can say they understood your post to be a joke back at Noddy, then I'll happily apologise!

this is turning into the greatest thread in history, i would like to hear more from noddy on the matter of what his comment was intended to be and alot more from people then claiming they got it.

It was intended to be a joke. Spinning the often commented perspective of QLD rugby, ie we are happy to have a losing season as long as we beat the Tahs.

Thanks for proving the point of my little joke :)

Let me spell it out for you. Noddy reversed the old and hackneyed NSW joke about Qlanders believing a season successful if they beat NSW. Well done, Noddy, I laughed.

I then added "took a while". It's a reference to Qlanders taking so long to play the barb back at Tah supporters. Why did the Qlanders take so long? There is, you know, some belief in NSW that Qlanders are a little mentally slow - another old and hackneyed view. Get it now? :)

Ah, now I see. Maybe I am slower than I think.

I took the 'it took a while' as you referring to the Reds being so poor for so many years that they didn't have the chance to level that criticism at NSW in return.

Anyway, you didn't explain your defensive position in the subsequent paragraphs. This threw me off more than anything. Why be defensive in response to a joke, unless you didn't get the joke?

Thanks. Love your second para - wish I had thought of that :)

My subsequent paras weren't meant defensive. I detest the old, stale stereotypes that NSW and Qld people hurl at each other - they are very boring and very wrong. I was just stating my experience of NSW attitudes to Qld.

If NSW and Qld are going to continue slagging each other, let's get some real truth, humour and originality into it. :) The best humour is that which is close to the truth.

Caught me, hook, line and sinker. So, if the Reds haven't beaten the Tahs are they in for a shit of a season? :fishing :fishing :fishing

PS. Check through my posts over the years: "I'd die a happy man after Queensland's most successsful season, won the Super 12/14/Rugby title while losing to the Tahs along the way."

Maybe, but I thought it was a good season if we either beat the Tahs or finished higher than them on the table...? :)

Let me say up front that I am a Baxter fan, and he is currently in career best form but how can you pick him for team of the week? He was hobbling for the last 10 mins of the first half and was replaced at half time by Kepu. He got a couple of minutes at the end for Robinson but spent most of that on the half way line watching Drew Mitchell score tries. Laurie Weeks, on the other hand had a great game and destroyed a hapless Force scrum. I notice that Baxter is named for this weeks side but I will be surprised if he plays with his calf injury.

I thought Henderson (one of the improvers this season) and the Force scrum did really well and got the better of the Reds. Daley is wonderful around the field, but doesn't do a lot at scrum time, he didn't trouble Fairbrother.
