Australian Super Rugby Team of the Week 2024

Phil Kearns (64)
The player with the highest fantasy score? Or the least penalised? Leave it to you. Sorry I haven't participated yet, have been under the pump both with work and weekend commitments so haven't been able to watch a lot of games. After this weekend things should settle down.
Yeah, highest fantasy score is my second tie breaker. I'm not sure about penalties but cards might be my 3rd. Very unlikely to be a situation where fantasy points don't decide it and cards do though.

Tough team to pick this week. 3 winning Aussie teams, Tahs missed by a whisker and Force did plenty right. Some very unlucky players to miss out.

Brumbies not getting a jersey. Hooper, Valetini & Lonergan all got consideration. I think my selections are warranted but I think also Brumbies should be commended for being able to do enough to get the win even though they were below their best.

Very strong Reds flavour but given they beat the Chiefs I don’t think that’s all my red tinted glasses.

Stand out performance from the Reds sees them dominate this side, particularly for putting in an 80 minute performance. The patchy games letting a few other players down, either starting or finishing well but not maintaining it for the entire time they were on the field. McReight already looking like the season MVP three rounds in, I don't think there's a player in better form across the competition.

I think plenty would have predicted that prior to the season, it looks like another very impressive season. I just hope that people also recognise the work that Liam Wright does that allows McReight and Wilson to do what they do.

Most complete looking bench yet, just a halfback short of proper positional coverage. Special mention to Andrew Kellaway as the only remaining player to make the XV all 3 weeks.

Loose head prop a really hard spot to pick this week with no one putting their hand up while no 8 was the opposite with Leota, Valetini & Wilson all very good and Gleeson with a couple of really good plays.

1. Slipper (yes - again I am easily influenced)
2. Faessler
3. Nonggorr
4. Smith
5. Uru
6. Wright
7. McReight
8. Wilson
9. McDermott
10. McLaughlin-Phillips
11. Toole
12. Henry
13. Flook
14. Vunivalu
15. Campbell

So all Reds bar two but I actually spent a fair bit of time on each spot, considered all the contenders and, in each case the Reds player was better IMO.

I did consider picking Nic Berry as ref of the round just to take the piss given some of the comments in the match thread.

1. Slipper (played almost a full game, and dominated Ainsley in the scrums)
2. Faessler
3. Nonggorr (THP a weak spot atm with TT out of form and AAA injured)
4. Frost (slow start but got into the game and finished strongly)
5. Uru
6. Wright
7. McReight
8. Valetini (HM to Leota and Gleeson)

Dominated by the Reds understandably, Kemeny was probably unlucky to be pulled at half time though, he was having a blinder. At the Brumbies Valetini and Wright are starting to find their form but are yet to put in complete performances, both had crucial errors this week letting them down. 10s were a bit weaker this round, but I thought Carter did a good job behind a beaten pack. The less said about the Force the better.
