This is an excerpt from the TOTW on rugby.com.au, compliments of former GAGR Nathan Williamson :
"3. Taniela Tupou (Melbourne Rebels)
Tupou reminded everyone of his power in his stint off the bench for the Rebels.
His work at scrum-time got the Rebels back into the contest as he bullied Harry Vella and the Brumbies front-row.
It was enough to earn the nod over Allan Ala'alatoa, with the duo set to form a powerhouse combination in the Test arena."
I think Nathan has got this completely arse about. First of all, Harry Vella wasn't even in the game. Slipper started at LHP and was replaced by Rhys van Nek at or around halftime. Initially, TT tore through the Brumbies front row, but after young Liam Bowron came on at hooker the combination with van Nek stabilised the scrum, even winning a penalty off the first scrum they set together. The scrum thereafter was much more solid and pretty much on par with the Rebels. So, pretty even between TT and vN at set piece but vN was all over the ground in open play setting up Tom Wright's second try on the night and scoring one himself. TT on the other hand was missing most of the second half except for some questionable entries to a couple of breakdowns, for which he will probably be duly penalised. No matter how good someone might think TT was on the back of those early scrums, he was well and truly outplayed by Rhys van Nek. Some other THPs might make TOTW this week, but most certainly TT should not.
