Australian Super Rugby Team of the Week 2023

I felt that Petaia was probably the Reds' best on the weekend, but Wright had a stronger game with fewer errors and had a hand in two of the Brumbies tries...

I think it is right that only those who watched every game should post. I didn't see the Force/Rebels game so won't post a team. But from the games I did see I don't understand Jordan Petaia being picked over Tom Wright who was one of the most effective players in the Tahs/Brumbies game. So much so that Rugby Australia nominated him as player of the round in their TOTW.
I picked Wright, and the beauty of this concept is that if more people pick him he will be picked in the TOTW, if more people pick Petaia then he will be instead.

At 8 or 7 Hardwick was close to the best performance of the week, the only other one from the Force Rebels game would have been Callan
Hardwick was one of the performers of the week. I’d say people aren’t picking him because they either don’t want to select a non-Aus qualified player or simply didn’t watch the rebels v Force game.

Yeah, the focus for this list is usually Australian eligible players, which Hardwick isn't.

They also nominated Tim Anstee over Valetini.

Can't win them all I guess.

Looks like there will need to be a need to invoke a "no commentary" clause on this thread. Brumbies complaining about other franchises having more fans, but fuck me, noise has a quality all of it's own.

Yeah, I think this pretty much needs to be like the 3-2-1 ratings for Wallabies in Tests. Put your team up, by all means justify who and why, but pages of debate about other people's opinion is not required - save that for match threads.
If someone has to collate this data, it'll be damn near impossible if each week gets 5 pages of argument.

I agree, although BR has a point…

I looked after this thing last year (and the year prior) and while you see some patterns in people’s voting, there was certainly a majority fan base of one team that dominated the votes which resulted in some problems:

- petty parochialism - last years MVP receiving surprisingly few nominations (one or two for the year) the last couple of years by usually reasonable contributors, in stark contrast to overall votes

- one player being unanimously nominated by the fans of four other teams in one round, and still missing out

- the contributions drying up completely as said team’s form dipped and the thread eventually dying a pitiful death.

For this thread to work it needs plenty of contributions from a broad cross section of the board.

Unfortunately you can’t stop people from being completely parochial in their votes, but it’s best for everyone’s mental health reading this thread that they submit their team and politely shut the fuck up regarding other people’s choices without wanting to come off like a complete hypocrite… and it will be so much easier for whoever is compiling it.

Can't speak for everyone but my contributions dipped in the 2nd half of the season because I had to watch twice as many games to see all the Australian sides play (further complicated by covid reschedules)

I am happy to stfu about others selections if that's the agreed way to go, but here's an idea out of left field that could be worthwhile in getting rid of bias, intended or otherwise.

Why not have a rule where fans of teams cannot include players from that team? May not be possible if all posters' preferences aren't known.
