Re Kellaway, I think we established last year he is a player who needs to be on the end of a good backline. From memory he was pretty average for the Rebels last year too before getting selected for the Wallabies and getting that WR (World Rugby) Rookie of year Gong. I'm happy to let Rennie decide.

Again strange comment. He played only a handful of games last year after rejoining the team when he finished his contract in Japan. Kinda like Hanigan is this year. Was sensational against the Crusaders which caught Rennies eye.

I think Kellaway’s strength is he is a smart player who works hard off the ball and makes very few mistakes. If he is ‘flashy’ at all it is only in the sense that he’ll make a play work by turning up in the right spot, running the right line or making a good read. He’s the sort of player that makes playmakers look good, extends line breaks and makes his tackles.

That’s what I thought he did on Friday night.

Will Jordan actually won the award. Kellaway was one of the four nominees (with Marcus Smith and Louis Rees-Zammit).

He plays like many of those underappreciated Kiwi backs, he just does the job consistently well and can be relied upon deliver every week
