If you are getting an HD Stream then there is no reason that it will be worse than HD on a TV.

Eventually we will have all HD/Ultra HD coming through a cable via the internet because the quality will be so high that the signal can't be effectively transmitted to an aerial as with current TV (digital or analogue).

Movies and TV shows will also need to be cloud based and delivered via the internet because even Blu-Ray won't be big enough to hold an Ultra HD movie.

Ah, ok, that's encouraging. Thanks for the help!

Other B&I Lions Ratings:

Force v Lions: 58'000
Reds v Lions: 208'000
NSW v Lions: 174'000
ACT v Lions: 88'000

*Brumbies clashed with Aus v IRAQ WC Qualifier and Force clashed with State Of Origin, also both were midweek matches.

Do you have the regionals ratings?

Overall Channel 10 will be very happy with those figures, they finished 1st in the 18-49 demographic 3 Saturday's in a row, Foxtel ratings were also pretty high as well...

The first and third Tests were great spectacles for the neutral observer too. The second Test, although closely fought and intense, was a poor game. Obviously the result in the last Test wasn't desirable for Australians, but there were some great tries which is important for most fans to see. Also, the referee wasn't too controlling with 20 penalties, which is still higher than one would like, but not out of control, so I think it was ultimately positive for the Sport.

Origin and soccer smashed those ratings didn't they?
The soccer match was a one off blockbuster given it was the WC qualifier, and the Wallabies were never going to beat the Origin ratings.

All figures i have posted so far on the Wallabies are minus regional areas;
Socceroos v Iraq rated 1.6million(minus regional)
State of Origin rated 2.4million (minus regional)

The national soccer team vs Iraq gets 1.6 mil while the national rugby team vs British and Irish 1.5 mil. That's a terrible look. Rugby is confirmed 4th now.

Weekday sport rates higher than Saturday night sport. Put the !ions Test on Wednesday/Tuesday night and it would beat the Soccer easily.

I have never experienced so many people talking about Rugby at my work. It's been an amazing few weeks.

There are world cup qualifiers every four years. There is a british and irish lions series once every 12 years.

We are in denial if we cannot see the trend that is happening. From the wallabies, to the shute shield, to the grass roots, rugby is in decline (be that relatively or absolutely).

Except this was our last qualifying game that we needed to win to ensure we qualified for the 2014 World Cup.

The fact that it was on a Tuesday night makes a big difference. The only sport it had to compete with was the Brumbies vs Lions which was only on Foxtel also has an impact.

Rugby's popularity has declined amongst the general public since 1999-2003 because we're not the best team in the world and winning World Cups and Bledisloe Cups.

The casual sports fans are what rugby needs to win back on a larger and more frequent scale and the only way to do that is to be more successful.

I do agree.

To be a technical nitpicker, the socceroos still could have qualified through a playoff round. But, that doesn't changed the validity of your point.

My point, which I didn't articulate very well is that: I think that rugby fanatics and rugby decision makers are often surrounded by other like minded people, so they don't see - or refuse to notice - the general trend in the larger population.

Yep. And, from the perspective you note BH, the tragedy of Saturday's result was the enormous national showcase for rugby and a fabulous crowd atmosphere etc, and we produced an embarrassingly inept performance little better than that achieved in Marseilles October 2007, and a long way from the amazing thriller of November 2003.

Remember that the networks, especially Ten, will look at sports like rugby as a simple profit/loss exercise, unlike the AFL or NRL, which are loss leaders.

This could actually work in rugby's advantage. Ten acquired the B&IL rights for $2.5m, and before the third Test, were reported to have made over $8m in advertising revenues.

That's incredible for Ten, and if they can get a good profit ratio for TRC matches, they'll give rugby a shot regardless of how it stacks up against the big three.

That sums up the standing of the game ATM.
There should be nowhere near this sort of margin for the network.
It also shows the ARU doesn't have much negotiating skills.

Gee there are some experts around. I think you will find that TEN were amazed at sponsor interest. Nobody could have predicted it. Except you.

I'd want to bet JON is chuckling.
They would not have pulled his pants down like this.
TEN being amazed notwithstanding.

I doubt JON is chuckling much. Packer gazumped Echo with regard to the Casino. JON would be concerned about his next payout figure at the moment as Shareholders of listed companies do in some cases hold the executive to a higher standard than the incompetent ARU board does.
