Actually interesting to hear that Sky in NZ (foxtel's brother) has lost the rights to show Pommy soccer, it gone to a channel that will show it on internet, wonder how this will impact sports viewing in future!!

Sky UK have had internet viewing for a number of years now. They did a big overhaul in the last year to make it more friendly for mobile devices such as tablets.

Since I'm in Tokyo I watch all of my rugby through their sky go. I have access to all channels on my subscription including the 5.5 sports channels. So I can watch the HEC/Callenge Cup, Guiness Premiership, S15, ITM, Currie Cup, TRC, various other tests during the year and of course the Lions.

I was very surprised to learn that Sky's sister companies in Aus & NZ haven't followed suit.

The only thing that annoys me about sky go now is that, since the upgrade, I have to pay an extra €6 a month (€12 next year), for a service that had always just been part of the package, so that other people can watch reality tv shows on their iPad.

Foxtel Go is online. Pretty handy little app and makes for watching the midnight games in the middle of winter a much more enjoyable experience (i.e. in bed and under the doona).

AFL offers all games available online (PC, tablets and mobiles) at a cost cheaper than the entire foxtel package.

probably the way forward as you can sync it all up to your tv as well.

Not a bad figure, not a awesome figure either, but it is a good sample of how this could grow further if the Wallabies win this weekend, it would make the Sydney test a ratings blockbuster and i imagine easily break 1.5million which would make it the 2nd highest rating wallaby game since the 2003 RWC GF.

FTA figures down on last week, Sydney and Melbourne markets dropped whilst Brisbane and Perth increased....

However, on a positive note the number of views in the 18-49 age bracket increased and the Wallabies Test took number out the most watched program in this bracket for the second week running...

Typically the 18-49 age bracket is considered more important then the overall number of views due to consumer trends the target market of advertisers .

Our code is not just ours. There are a lot of fans who live in other parts of the world. Specifically, in the UK and Ireland. The game has to be on Saturday (or a Sunday) so that they can watch it live.


It would not rival origin no matter when or where it was televised.

Fox up 17,000 and Ten down 54,000.

Who would have thought a Rugby League journalist would write something negative about Saturday's game?

Compare what was served up in the rugby Test with the second State of Origin league match last week . . . oh, hang on, you'd better not because there was no comparison.
There was more excitement in the first 10 minutes of Origin II than there was in 80 minutes in the rugby Test.
A wasted chance to convert a few people to rugby. Maybe that's what Wallabies captain James Horwill was crying about after the Test.

Why is it that week in week out we have ten pages dedicated to their game and every*single*bloody*time they also get a (non reply-able) extra chance to peddle their own barrow?

This is a serious question, leave aside whether they get the chance or not, but do any of the union writers ever bag league? Or do they simply report as is their job.

All too often (when I have seen it) the tv commentary is also taking backhanded swipes (wow, is not our game the best in the world? blah blah)

Are they insecure? what is going on, and why does the proprietor of the papers allow the constant attack?

Man, see how many idiocies you can spot in the rothfield column. Why, as but one example, does he not link to any of the fantastic end to end tries we see every single week in Super Rugby? No, he will link to A try scored in a club match to somehow make his point.

As he says, 'self confessed leaguie' which means he does not know the rules, watches it rarely, and even then only for the chance to again put the boot in, THEN 'complains' about unfathomable ref decisions??

Guess he has a point, NEVER do ref decisions make the headlines in a game as simple as league Nope, never seen 'em making news.

I was wondering about this issue of Sport on the internet. Watching Sport is improved so much by HD and a big TV screen. I couldn't imagine watching the Super 15 or Test Matches on a computer. Do you connect your computer to the TV and if so, what is the image quality like having been enlarged so much compared to the computer screen? Thanks!

If you are getting an HD Stream then there is no reason that it will be worse than HD on a TV.

Eventually we will have all HD/Ultra HD coming through a cable via the internet because the quality will be so high that the signal can't be effectively transmitted to an aerial as with current TV (digital or analogue).

Movies and TV shows will also need to be cloud based and delivered via the internet because even Blu-Ray won't be big enough to hold an Ultra HD movie.
