With the relinquishment of the Cook Cup, the ARU are able to store some more bottles of chardonnay, in the St. Leonards "trophy cabinet".

I'll be dead one day, when all of this Wallaby-inflicted pain will become meaningless.

Folau's highball skills are sublime. The counter attack by the Wallabies back three is very threatening. Kicking high or for territory is a tactic that is being neutralised by the Wallabies.
The Wallabies are showing signs that their defence is improving, if they get it right the opposition can't run through them, around them or kick over them effectively. It's going to be a great asset to add to their attacking flair.

Good news re grass roots growth of the game. The recently formed Sydney Inner West minis comp has seen the emergece of a few new juniors clubs. Briars formed a juniors club last year, St Patricks Old Boys will be this year and Balmain continues to grow after forming 3 - 4 years ago. Combined with a strong contingent of SS and Div 1 clubs, suggests rugby is growing well in the area.

REDS - Good cattle and a good support base, should be able to stay strong.

WARATAHS - Had that breakout year last season. Coach now has full control over his cattle, playing a game that is generating genuine excitement amongst the fan base. Players will be more in tune with coaches desire and this could be the year for them.

BRUMBIES - Strong and technically accurate. The forwards coach is still there and now have a coach who could bring a more attacking mindset to the sides game. No reason they can't keep the momentum from the Jake White reforms going.

REBELS - Picked up some good cattle, new coach plugging away out of the spotlight on his vision for the team. This could easily be their breakout year.

FORCE - Issues well documented but plugging away out of the spotlight. Easy to write them off but would not be at all surprised if they turn a few heads. Have a bloody loyal support base that will go nuts if it comes together this year.

There are positives in all the franchises. The ingredients are there so lets go and bake the friggin' cake in 2014.

For the last 2 days running the back page of the SMH had a big rugby story (and photo) as its sports leader..

According to Pulver, Super Rugby is going to operate at a loss this season in Australia. Nick Farr-Jones is doubtful about the viability of the NRC.

Don't worry, chaps, there is another Lions tour in 2025 (maybe). We should be able to hang on until then, maybe?

Super Rugby launch is today. Looks like Asteron Life is the naming rights sponsor in Oz this season.

Surely they should look at re jigging the draw to get an Australian prime time match every Friday or Saturday night to put on free to air tv.

With the ARU actually charging a fee for junior teams to be allowed to play, there will be more money in the kitty to a; buy another league player or b;not have to worry about operating within budget, either one must be s huge positive for someone:D
