Working for Rupert Murdoch should be a stain on your resume given the way Murdoch promoted Rebekah Brooks post the News of World Scandal.

It all depends, surely. There are some pretty capable people in the Murdoch empire, always have been. Some rogues and thugs as well.

Newscorpse does not get to be the dominant force that it is just on skullduggery. They have always had some brilliant minds on tap. An old workmate of mine was in charge of the tech side of the move to Wapping. Brilliant mind, PhD, very practical. I would have hired him any time at all.

Any idea what this big bash style competition the new guy wants?
I expect this was more a nice sounding idea being floated rather than any concrete plans being in place. A lot of the success of the BBL, imo, is down to the fact that there is nothing else on television during the summer and people just have it on in the background. Also there are physical limits on the regularity with which rugby can be played that cricket doesn't have to deal with.

Yeah I just can't picture what he means. I guess 7s or 10s is our equivalent of big bash, could do that as a pre season tournament?

I was pretty livid when I heard newscorp exec joining RA board but now I understand his background more i was wrong and think Hamish McClennan has the sort of background RA needs. So who for CEO now - Matt Carroll?

I think the Big Bash is more GRR than 7s. Just made up rules to facilitate a different game. perhaps its 10s or something, but I gather it's more about different rules.

Another feature of the BBL is that you're only really missing the 11 test players so you still have plenty of star attraction that appeals to the non-diehards. You also occasionally get club bowlers bowling to international batsman which produces fireworks. I don't really envisage a big bash style competition getting much traction amongst the general public if you don't have a good proportion of your topline players available.

Well, you used to. Certainly it's not getting the same level of imports it once did.

I really don't know what a BBL version of rugby would look like. Shorter games? Different franchises? More imports? It sounds like too much of a though bubble to me.

Reg is likely pretty close to the mark. GRR is probably the closest in terms of concept we've seen. Tweaks to the laws in order to induce more ball in play and less stoppages. But ultimately not really all that different. Thanks largely to the game already being pretty well packaged in terms of the window needed .i.e. roughly 2-3 hours.

In fact, Super 12 kind of was the version of BBL for Rugby. Short, sharp with the best players in the world.

My biggest concern RN is that one A Jones is positioning himself for the CEO job after giving up his daytime paying job.

9 CEO supposedly told Jones his contract wouldn’t be renewed so he could see it out or walk away and Alan chose to walk. Given that, I’m not sure he quit radio to position himself for the CEO job but that’s not to say he won’t give it a crack now.

I read he was told to walk BR, because of his Ardern comments causing yet another advertising exodus (straw that broke the camels back i suppose).

So i doubt it.

Thoughts on why Fordham (& Breen in BrisVegas) not Hadley is replacing Jones? Did Hadley not want it or are they deliberately bringing in someone a little less controversial for the sake of being controversial?

Two separate stories on Rugby Xplorer on SA players du Toit and Marx terminating contracts with their Super franchises as part of a cost cutting exercise for SA rugby .

They are allowing a period of time for players to ask for termination of contracts with SA franchises in order to seek contracts in other pro leagues.

Obvious difference here is they can still be picked for the national team .

The official reason was that Hadley's slot was going okay, ratings wise, so it made sense to keep that and put Fordham into Jones' spot. One change instead of two. Makes sense, I suppose.
