Can anyone see the RA board NOT accepting the captains idea of a review board?

It just feels like there's no other option. If they don't go for it, then it just feels like something could snap this time. Can't see them moving on from this one. And it just seems like the only option with the potential to heal the game.

If they do go for it, then as has been suggested, the key will be in the make-up of the review board.

I'll eat my foot if any useful suggestions come from a review.

There might be some value in having an informal sounding board of former greats of the game. But it is ludicrous to believe that anything formal and binding would ever be a possibility. No director worth anything at all would want to be dictated to by unelected "experts", especially when it would obviously be on the basis of the dry-cleaners' proviso: "all care and no responsibilty".



Rugby is a business, first and foremost, in this professional age. The days of the horse and buggy are long gone, which is obviously difficult for certain posters to grasp. Corporations have to act like corporations, not like the neighbourhood rugger club, old chap.

Who else is lining up to employ him? he is a sports administrator Sl*t ,


800k would be enough, cant see baseball paying him more, caus that would be next cab.

That said, I dont mind the prospect, think we could do way worse than DG.

But, as I'm typing this, a thought occurs. Next time a vacancy comes up for the RA board (not the CEO position) someone should get Mark Taylor to run. He's someone who's universally respected in the cricket world for his playing career, leadership and integrity, and as a former commentator you'd think he'd be savvy about broadcast issues too. They could do a lot worse.

Matt Burke made some pretty interesting and sensible comments on the news tonight. The crux of it was that the present situation should be used as an opportunity to rebuild our domestic footy, bring the Force back in, invite the PI's and Japan and hopefully get the Kiwi's on board.

Abbott actually does have some attributes (and I despise the man's political record). He seems to live a fairly humble life in many respects, which is a lot more than we can say about the usual crew of rugby royalty. He was a Rhodes Scholar, got a Blue, worked as a journalist for The Bulletin.


If you cannot imagine worse than Abbott you don't have much imagination. You don't manage to hold your grip on a seat like Warringah for as long as he did without some sort of political ability. And political ability, coupled with rugby DNA, is just what we need.


The subject is closed as far as I am concerned. Fire away all you like, but maybe also put up your preferred candidates?

I’ve seen some players call for a domestic competition, but I wonder what if they have considered the implications of this.

Eg To'omua called for a Trans-Tasman competition. I agree it’ll be a far better offering for fans, but what about the players?

Team salary caps will be about a third of what they are now, if that. To'omua won’t get anywhere near his current wage in an Aus only comp. Some squad members will be lucky to be paid.

It mightn't be perfect but, its the only big stadium left, And I still enjoy the experience of being in a big crowd even if you are along way from the action

The story for a long time has been that Super costs money doesn’t earn it. The story goes that all income is from the WBs. A domestic comp, on its own, does little to impact WB earnings. OTOH a domestic 2nd tier might have a chance at earning money, or at least losing less than Super does.

Where is he money coming from?

This is the crux of the problem. If we expanded to more domestic teams we dilute the talent pool further. We already don't get nearly enough viewers for what would be the blockbuster games in a new comp.

We're going to need plenty of outside money (private owners willing to lose money) to have any sort of salary cap that will allow sufficient quality.

I also don't really see how we can field more than 5 Australian teams. I just don't think there is nearly enough quality players to go beyond that.

I think it is clear now that Super Rugby is never coming back. In terms of what comes next, I think we'll be largely dependent on NZ coming to the conclusion that they don't have enough teams or money to go it alone either.

Para is fabulous for 20k, but the Bled should not be in Sydney if they can’t handle it. There are good stadia in Brisbane and Perth. Para matches Melbournes rectangular stadium though,

It grieves me deeply to say this, but, with our current stadia in Sydney Melbourne is a lot more attractive. The new stadium's all well and good, for a crowd of only 30,000. Places to eat and drink nearby aren't a patch on Melbourne.
