I am sorry, I have not got the foggiest idea what you are saying, with the best will in the world. Maybe you can help me to understand. Is my club, Eastwood, part of the "elite amateur" faction? AFAIK, our first graders get paid - not much, but they are certainly not lilywhites.


If clubs like Eastwood, West Harbour, Southern Districts and all the rest did not exist, all their volunteers, supporters, sponsors, and of course the loyal lower graders and so on just vanished from the face of the earth, who on earth would replace them?


The Shute Shield has tried over the years to admit new clubs, there have been lots of attempts, and not many successes.

Yes they are an elite amateur club. I want to stress this isn’t a bad thing, infact they are an important cog in Aus rugby but equally they need to understand they live in a different world to other amateur clubs.

I am a believer they are a product of the game more than the club. There is some brilliant clubs out there, I’m sure Eastwood is in the category. However if they never existed another club would of thrived, be in the highest level competition in the state, therefore attract talent, sponsors, supporters etc. the game provided this opportunity, not a collection of clubs.

Of course it would be missed, no one is saying it wouldn’t. But there is a real sense that they are the lifeblood of the game and above the rest which just grates on so many outside the bubble.

I have nothing against the clubs, I think they are great they just need to understand they aren’t the little guy in the fight for improvement. How it’s perceived is like people on $150k a year crying foul to the millionaires on behalf of people on $50k or less

Michael Lynagh has asked for his name to be removed from the letter, stating he wasn’t correctly informed on what was in the letter and also wasn’t told that it was going to be made public. He did say he agrees with some of the sentiment in the letter but doesn’t believe in the manner in which this is been conducted.

Wayne Smith saying NFJ and Kearns are the ring leaders. A few of the names have only been contacted via phone. So there is a chance it’s not even legit signatures and simply just names attached to a sheet after a phone call was made to certain people who have never seen the letter pre it been sent

Did I mention earlier the low estimation in which RA held Kearns' application for CEO? There was a reason.

The pile-on here against the 10 captains is testament to their courage in climbing out of the trenches to make their contribution.
They must have known that controversy would follow but did it anyway.
Good on 'em.

Oh and if chasing the filthy lucre is a legitimate criticism of any Australian, then be consistent and include Raelene's near $900,000 package in 2019.

The former Australian captain, John Thornett, attended Sydney Uni and played rugby for Sydney University Football Club. When he graduated he continued his rugby career, with Northern Suburbs. Moving to a district club is what both NFJ and Waugh should've done when their studies were completed. As should every other rugby player from Sydney University.

Just to be pedantic, this season is former contestants who have been slugging it out since they were last on the show..........

And to be fair, most of the contestants on that show do go on to work in the industry, some of whom have worked in the top restaurants in the world.
