Or just a reflection of the place rugby sits in the Australian sporting landscape as a result of the last 10 years. Fox has paid a bucket load for AFL, NRL and Cricket, there isn't a lot of money left.

Let’s not forget that Rugby was one of the non essential sports floated by Foxtel to be axed..........

And if the reports are accurate their offer looks to have been halved from the previous deal.

Maybe I'm missing something......... but weren't Fox forking out $58 million per year in the current deal but won't match Optus' offer of $30 million per year going forward?

No, I believe RA's share of the broadcast agreement was $58m per year.

Whilst hard to get actual details, there are some reports which said Foxtel have previously paid $15million cash for the broadcast rights with several million in contra advertising on top.

From what I understand, RA got more money from the broadcast rights in Europe then they did the broadcast rights in Australia.

Yeah, the whole deal is more than the Foxtel or Optus tip-in. Very much relies on money from UK still. I believe the touted numbers are only for the Optus share, obviously in lieu of the previous Foxtel share. I believe.
Please correct me though if I am completely wrong, if anyone knows better.

I'm not BH, but I am pretty sure the larger amount was from Europe, specifically UK in particular. I think it remains the bigger piece of the puzzle now, so the Foxtel v Optus bit is somewhat of a sideshow. But still obviously important.

Rugby Australia booked $60.6m of broadcast revenue in 2018 and $61.7m of broadcast revenue in 2017. Australia's share of the previous SANZAAR deal was $285m over 5 years or an average of $57m a season. My guess is that the difference between these is that the deal is in US dollars and there are fluctuations over the term.

I don't know the Fox Sports numbers but they do not pay RA directly. The SANZAAR agreement is split and covers the domestic competitions, Super Rugby, Rugby Championship and inbound tests. They sell the rights as a package and manage the different splits internally in terms of who gets what (a country hosting a B&I Lions tour gets a big spike in broadcast revenue).

I definitely don't think Fox Sports made up the bulk of that figure. Inbound tests against the top European teams are worth a lot in those markets as are the Rugby Championship matches.

Rugby Australia chief executive Raelene Castle wrote an apology to World Rugby after the game’s governing body expressed concerns about the behaviour of some members of the Wallabies set-up, including head coach Michael Cheika, at the recent World Cup in Japan.

Castle penned the apology to World Rugby after being made aware of a number of issues within the team by the local Japanese organising committee as well as high-ranking rugby officials.

A survey of members of the organising committee during the World Cup resulted in the Wallabies being marked down as one of the most difficult teams to work with at the tournament.

Castle, wanting to get on the front foot, did her best to clear the air and make peace following a forgettable World Cup on and off the field.

Israel Folau is now demanding $14 million from Rugby Australia

Sacked Wallabies star Israel Folau has sensationally launched a fresh attack at Rugby Australia, now demanding $14 million in damages.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Folau has lodged an updated statement of claim in the Federal Court, increasing his demands by $4 million.

To justify his demands, Folau has reportedly estimated how much he would have earned had he been promoted to the role of Wallabies captain.
