On last nights evidence, the performance of the Rebels and the Force prove that shrink to greatness WON’T work.

The Brumbies proved that good coaching is the the key.

I don’t think any of the Rebels or Force players would make a Starting XV for the Brumbies.

Also: if the Rebels and Force merged their squads would they still wouldn’t beat the current Brumbies or Hurricanes.

Coaching, pathways, grassroots

Plenty of Rebels players could make the Brumbies team.

Your post doesn’t make too much sense first you said it is the quality of the coaching that is key, insinuating that the Rebels and Force are behind the Brumbies due to this.

Then you say it’s the players

Maybe they could buy Super Rugby. Yeah, I know that the diehard supporters are gonna hate me but at least they know how to run a profitable domestic competition

The only point I would add to you list is Clubs need to stop buying names to add to their squads and start buying players for their team.

For all the names the Force and Rebels bought, it still didn't build a team.

NRL great Laurie Daley spoke support around NRL buying RA last season. it didn't get far.

More to the point, it isn't equivalent. The reciprocal arrangement would be the English RU looking to buy out RA.

But the thing is if the NRL starts to pour money in to the Super League there is a chance that isn’t taken lying down

I'm not sure of your point, RM. Do you mean Super League buying into NRL? If so who cares? Or am I missing something?

Well the NRL buying the Super League is the NRL trying to go head to head with the RFU really

They aren’t going to be content being the second code of rugby with most clubs being close to bankruptcy.

Simon Cron would have to be the poster boy for our coaching development wouldn't he?

If he can't make a difference, and his team runs out looking like they are poorly coached, what hope do we have?

NRL can make it an all year business then, and players can move around - Rugby Union is doing very well in Europe (England and France in particular), but there are English teams under financial duress who could go under (in England - Newcastle are lucky there is no relegation this year).

Don't be shocked if Newcastle comes under new ownership in the form of the Saudi's. They are actively looking a a few English clubs and the owner of Newcastle has been out to SA recently. In terms of the NRL buying into the ESL I suspect it would be more about funneling talent from the ESL to the NRL as opposed to the NRL being willing to pump $10s of millions of dollars into first supporting (many ESL teams are exactly flush with cash either) the clubs and then building a small base into a larger one. I mean may be but it's a very different proposition than in Australia.

Cron is nothing special. I don’t see anything special in him.

The coach the Force got rid of Tim Sampson is better IMO. Evidence is RA stepped in and assisted Sampson to sign on with the rebels as an assistant.

Going suck watching our players and coaches going overseas because there’s only 3 Super rugby jobs available and no NRC anymore

Wouldn't it be more like the RFU buying Super Rugby? An arrangement RA would be in love with you'd think. You'd think they'd probably buy their own domestic league first, though.

Ah, now there is the key devil in the detail. DOMESTIC COMPETITION.

Its wont be accepted as it risks pushing the club scene like the Shute (mainly) and Hospital back in the clubland and people will lose their power. The proof was with the NRC and the revolving or on and off NSW teams.
