Rugby Australia's change of heart on David Nucifora

https://www.theaustralian.com.au › sport › rugby-union

Nucifora from www.theaustralian.com.au
22/11/2021 — Rugby Australia chief executive Andy Marinos recently flew to Dublin to ask former Brumbies coach David Nucifora to come home.

I just came across this article today, apparently Andy Marinos flew over to Ireland and asked Nuicifora to come back to Aus, does anyone have a subscription for this? This would be a very interesting proposition, Ireland RU individuals will tell you of the extraordinary influence David (as Director of Rugby) has had on Ireland rugby since 2014, Ireland were record low 9th ranking 2013 before Nuici arrived in 2014, since then they've been consistently around 1st-4th in the world.

Not quite the right thread but interesting to see Christy Doran join the Roar as chief rugby writer. Good for him, unlike a lot of people here I thought he had his heart in the right place just not working in the right place.

What does this mean for Brett McKay?

I think Christy is great. What does it mean for rugby coverage at Fox?
They've been waiting to put an intern into that chair to re post Bleacher Report articles from 2 weeks ago since Fox got rid of Rugby.

They don't care at all, and you can even notice the digs across league shows a lot more now. Rugby does nothing to not deserve them though.

Seems Nucifora not keen. Interesting he seems a little upset over his centralisation idea getting ignored?

Can someone explain Dave to me? He's before my time, why is he jaded from his time in Aus? Wiki has him being sacked after winning Super and being named coach of the year three years running. What the fuck went down?

Australia can't really afford to have rugby IQ outside the tent, definitely not propping up the enemy to such illustrious heights.

Australian rugby does seem fairly toxic. Plenty of IQ quit/gone. All these toff wankstains running the game and Australians generally being dickheads.

The reality is probably a bit complicated, like most things DC. There is little doubt that Nuci rubbed some people up the wrong way but there is equally little doubt that he's got a very good rugby brain. The group of players at the Brumbies during his era were no doubt a head strong bunch and wielded extraordinary influence, but they also had extraordinary success. I think in the long term it's hurt the game here though.

I think the director of rugby position seems to suit him, with less day to day interaction with the playing group.

There's a number of people in the Brisbane/QLD rugby community (and outside of it) who have a very strong opinion about him, and he has made his feelings about them known in much the same way.

I reckon he's pretty happy being based offshore away from the fuss here in Oz.

And these same guys attempted to oust Rod McQueen as well... therefore Nuicifora must've been an excellent coach.
