Australian Conference Trophy

What are people's thoughts on having an annual trophy for the Australian Team of the Year? Obviously we have the conference winner, but that obviously takes into account SAF and NZL teams. The same old argument comes up that not everyone plays all the other teams, and some are away, some at home.

This is just a stand alone 'trophy' (was thinking the Catchpole Cup, but too close to the Catchpole Medal, so give me some other ideas) that takes into account only the local derbies. Same point scoring as the regular Super Rugby tables, but an initiative of the ARU, rather than SANZAR.

I threw together a table at the moment, and the Brumbies are obviously smashing it.

What do you think? A worthwhile trophy or more meaningless silverware?

I think it is too close to the Aus conference trophy to hold any significance.

What I would like to see is a trophy like the ranfury shield. Every game (or maybe just every home game) against australian opponents you contest for it.

I think it would give a greater sense of who is top dog at any given point in time.

If we really think we need another trophy I would prefer a "Ranfurly Shield" style thing than a Aus conference trophy winner.

Make the "holder" defend each regular home game

Most teams have a trophy already, Rod Maqueen Cup, Bob Templeton Cup, Weary Dunlop Shield etc

I don't think there is much of a need.
