Australian Bid for 2027 World Cup

In 2003 Melbourne only had 38,899 attend NZ v Canada, 40734 for NZ v SA, 33134 for France v Ireland. (all at Docklands)

I don't think they should get the final, it should be played in a traditional rugby city so Sydney should get it unless QLD can upgrade to a 60000 seat stadium.

If Sydney don't get it then Perth would be my next best based purely on support for the Force compared to the Rebels.
So we had games played at a shit venue, without Aus and we were roughly at 80% capacity.
Love how they carefully left out Australia v Ireland 54k,NZ v Italy 41K, England v Samoa 50k from the list

More important to get a decent game going out west i reckon. Perth is currently the only place rugby is actively growing.
Mate 5 years ago there was 1 local Rebel now 40% of the squad is local. The game is growing at a junior level here but apparently facing issues at a senior level.

I do agree but, I love seeing the Wallabies play in Perth. They are Australia’s team and no city should have a monopoly on them. It’s easy to say Brisbane and Sydney are the heartlands so the games should be there but if you do that the game will only ever be strong in two areas of the country.

And the part of Qld can add 10k seats. With the mom tied up in the Olympics and the knockdown rebuild of the Gabba where will the money come from? Was Suncorp built to be expanded or will that have to be a complete knock down?

The biggest crowd at Suncorp in 03 was 48k, what was the capacity at the time? I know docklands is 56K with standing tickets. Biggest crowd at the stadium other then UFC is the Lions tours in 2013 and 2001.

I think it is also important to get some games at Adelaide oval.

We need to use these events to grow Rugby across Australia.
I remember in 03 going over to Adelaide for a weekend and it was pumping for a small country town, Australia v Namibia was on Sat and Ireland v Argentina on the Sunday. They had to order a emergency supply of beer from Melbourne as they were running dry on Sat.

Went to the Ireland game, $10 standing ticket on the old hill at Adelaide oval.

Sounds amazing. I was a kid back then desperately trying to learn all the laws while watching on TV

Yeah the AFL never fill it. I am a Pies fan and have no interest in going if it’s not at the G

Adelaide always plays smart when it comes to these events, they'll pick up one or more good games.

Hope so, all I can remember from 03 is watching all the games on TV had no clue where they were played. Adelaide is probably the most die hard Aussie rules city in Australia but.

I was 18, so a kid who was allowed to drink.

Also remember that the weekend of Aus v Ireland in Melbourne was big, International rules (that AFL/GAA crap) was Friday night at the MCG, Rugby Sat and Melbourne Cup the Tuesday.

Being within close proximity to South Yarra is not a selling point... Chapel Street is garbage.

I would say that, without a doubt, the CBD is a much more desirable destination than Richmond for food and drink... although the CBD is bereft of pubs...

But I'm in Footscray, so I'm already spoiled for choice when it comes to quality Vietnamese and top shelf bars and pubs.

If i'm going out for dinner with the better half I might choose southbank if we are staying in melbourne but if i'm kicking on after the footy with the boys i'm going to richmond or brunswick

Apparently the MCG has delayed the redevelopment of the Shane Warne stand until after the WC. Will expand the capacity to 105k with apparently a 5 star hotel to be built over where the train lines are now

Where ever the finals are played will be full houses. lets learn the lessons from past mistakes....put the money and energies into teen rugby now and all junior age groups after the two RWC's. We have great junior talent we just need to show them a viable pathway.

Suncorp was designed to take another tier. They’d pay for it from Olympic money if they thought it was needed. But no one’s talked about that. It’s not needed.

Won’t happen, they are doing a knock down rebuild if the Gabba they won’t also do Suncorp

Lol Perth got 60k the G has hosted 3 Bledisloe Cup games and got 90k 80k and about 75k. It is by being means a crack at them I loved the bledisloe in Perth and hope to see it return there more regularly.

We need to look to maximise the revenue and grow the game Sydney does not achieve that. If you talk about poor crowds look at the test crowds there.

You will sell out the G for the final, it is the obvious choice.
As well as ticket numbers surely cost per ticket is also a factor for revenue?

100k @ $150.00 = $15,000,000
83.5k @$150.00 = $12,525,000
83.5k @ $179.64 = $15,000,000

Maybe slightly more expensive tickets is the key part of having a sold out crowd in a Rugby city AND making money, Sydney Rugby fans deserve some type of reward for being forced to go to SCG tests.

Your having a laugh if you think tickets to the World Cup final will be $150
