Anyone watch Horwill on the weekend play in the NRC?

Curious to know if he increased his chances?

Reports suggested that neither Horwill nor Skelton did a huge amount. Skelton played 80 minutes though which surely helps him even if he wasn't hugely effective.

Reports are that Strauss will start ahead of Bismarck, who looked exhausted and off his game. In my opinion, Strauss saved our skins in Salta. Bismarck on with 20 to go to win some turnovers.

Coetzee will start for Alberts. Will be interesting to see if they play Mohoje or Whitely on the bench or maybe even both instead of a lock.

Steyn will start at 10.

Matfield back in.

Formal team announcement on Wednesday.

My saffa sources says keeping Bismark on ice for AIG clash the following week - hes been playing a lot of rugby and hes so influential for the bok team they really need him re the kiwis.

Don't lose too much with Strauss probably hed be first choice hooker in any other international test team so he won let anybody down.

Will be interesting to see who Link rolls out for this test I really hope Higgen, Foley and Skelton get a start...

Adriaan Strauss is expected to replace Bismarck du Plessis at hooker when the Springboks tackle the Wallabies in Perth on Saturday.
Du Plessis has played a lot of rugby this season, starting in the majority of the Sharks' Super Rugby matches and in all five Tests for the Boks. His performance has started to suffer as a result, as was evident in the most recent clash against Argentina in Salta.
Heyneke Meyer has often spoken about the need to rotate, given the demands of the modern rugby season and the challenges of the Boks' Rugby Championship schedule. Strauss should start for the Boks at hooker this Saturday, with Du Plessis playing a smaller role from the bench.
Victor Matfield missed the two matches against Argentina due to a knee injury, but has been given the all clear and should start at No 5 against Australia. This could see Lood de Jager dropping out of the match-day squad.
Another rookie in Handré Pollard will make way this week, as Meyer looks to his veterans to give the team an edge at a key stage of the Rugby Champiionship. Morné Steyn will be named at flyhalf, and should provide the Boks with more stability as far as tactical and goal-kicking is concerned.
A further change will be made to the pack, with Marcell Coetzee starting at blindside flank. Coetzee started at No 7 in Pretoria, and replaced Juan Smith in the second half of the game in Salta.
While he is a specialist openside, the Boks coaches are confident that Coetzee has what it takes to do the job at blindside. Willem Alberts isn't available because of injury, while Smith has requested more time to work on his match fitness.
The Bok side to play Australia will be announced on Wednesday.

My prediction for the Wallabies lineup.

Slipper, Hansen, Kepu
Simmons, Skelton
Fardy, Palu, Hooper
Phipps, Beale
To'omua, Kuridrani
Horne, Folau, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)

Fainga'a, Alexander, Cowan, Horwill, Higginbotham, White, Foley, Betham.

You reckon Link will persist with Beale?

I would've thought that changing both the halves would be the one necessary unforced change?

He seemed to hint on RugbyHQ last Thursday that it wasn't a done deal. He generally keeps his cards pretty close to his chest though.

Personally I would put Beale back to the bench. I'm not certain it's going to happen though.

I'd be dropping Beale for his defence more than anything though. I think anyone standing at first receiver and our forward runners have looked better once Phipps has been on the field because he has made them run onto the ball.

Hanson! I can't stand it when people continually misspell players' names!

How many Wallabies played over the past weekend? How do you think that will impact the players in terms of being overcooked, or just match fit for that game?

The only squad members that played were Pek Cowan (who will be on the bench and didn't get on in the second Bledisloe), James Horwill and Will Skelton (who haven't had much football lately), Kyle Godwin (returning from injury, very unlikely to be in the 23) and Matt Hodgson (also unlikely to be in the 23).
