Some strange decision making at the end by the Wallabies not to set up for drop goal, so perhaps it did 'get away'.

But i disagree that the ABs didn't played to win. The ABs definitely played most of the footy in the first half but Cruden was sorely lacking.

The Nonu / Fekitoa combo wasn't working either.

Then the ABs mistakes just gifted the Wallabies so much possession in the 2nd half.

Hooper said that the Wallabies had planned for a drop goal but the AB's won a turnover on 1st phase.

Well the AB's certainly weren't prepared to have a run in their own half they kicked in hope of Wallaby errors before they played any real ball in hand.

I want to win

This aint the Tahs v Cheetahs.
Anyway, just looking at a replay: Australia should never have got that penalty. Stick with me and tell me what I missed.
Crockett took White out.
Beale took a quick tap and they frigged around over on the western side for a few phases until a knock on.
Peyper blows a penalty and goes back to the Crockett incident, telling Sir Richie that it was cynical but because we took a quick tap he did not have time to bin him. Bins him.
Awards the penalty and Hooper takes a scrum.
Problem: that had already been penalised, we took the quick tap and we knocked on. By all means bin Crockof but its an NZ scrum for the knock on.
Smells like a huge clanger to me.

Tie with the all blacks and make 6 changes? Fuck me dead

A tie against the AB. That willy win back the Bledisloe... Not. An AB side that wasn't great and spent 20 minutes down a player.

Foley was better at 10. AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) & McCabe went ok. I just think Kuridrani/AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) is stronger and had the combination from the fremch tests. The changes backfired and were not really needed.

My understanding was the second penalty was for offside at the quick tap and he was still playing advantage when the knock on happened. As far as the first goes I had the impression it was a yellow at the time, but I fully admit to not being the fairest of judges.

Nah, it was a dumb decision....

He turned down a gift 3 points with less than a minute in the half and came away with nothing.....
Nah that was the one Beale missed.

The one he opted for the scrum there was a little longer to go - we score a try great decision. I would have gone the kick, but I like the attitude we want to score tries and the more practice we get the more we will score.

The best teams of the past would build phases, pressure and score from 5 out. They don't wake up and be the best they train it, and play it, and work it, I like his option.

It's a nice attitude to have, but you always take the points...........

In the end it's the difference between a win and a draw..........

You may be right.
He never says it.
All you can hear is a call of "advantage" without him identifying what it was for. And he never says what the penalty that turned into a scrum was for that I can hear.
Benefit of the doubt for Peyper - I was hoping to crucify him.

Perhaps he needs to see a doctor about his sense of smell then.
How many tries did we score?
Not taking the shot fails the "what would the all blacks do in this situation" test.

Yes and no

I really like the scrum option when a front rower gets binned because they lose a backrower (I see that as an under utilised quality tactic), retrospect makes not as good, but I think he would have taken the kick if a backrower was binned.

Not scoring the try didn't make it a bad option, the work against a seven man scrum to leverage the advantage was the issue.

I agree its not determined by not scoring the try - but its the points.
The other thing is however much we were physically competing we never looked like making a clean break. How did Hooper imagine the blood he smelled was going to turn into a try, i wonder.
All our attack was cross field so they can just stand on the try line and show us the corner flag. As they did.

so what happens if we lose? U change the whole team???
the all blacks played the conditions better and were more physical in the first half. That's not a personnel issue that needs to be addressed it's tactical.

I'm not saying no changes I think McCabe showed he isn't the finisher we need on the end of the backline. Speight , tomane would have scored that try. I think white is under pressure to perform and should be directed to can the box kick. But fundamentally if link were to put Horne at centre it goes against the shape and style he has building towards the last two years. Horne I believe can only be considered for the wing. He runs lines in the middle of the field from set plays because he is a good straight hard runner. The one time he got the ball in phase play in the middle of the field he bombed a three man over lap

Maybe, if time is up on the clock in either half. That is the only position from which you have a "gift" three points. But if time ISN'T up, then a penalty kicked simply alters the next phase in terms of starting back at halfway.

You might take 3, then have a try put on you.

I take the view that we're not fucking Poms, so we make opportunities. Link backs me up

Im waiting to see a replay of that and I agree that it appeared he was out of his depth.
However, I think you will find that no one straightened and drew their opposite allowing 2 men (not just Savea) to get him into touch.
All of our attack is aiming at the sideline.
Whether the ABs are dropping the ball or have men in the sin bin if we continue to run across field they will just herd us from one side to the other.
Absolutely agree with this - my immediate reaction at the game without seeing a replay was that the last pass to McCabe should gave been held up rather than just being shuffled on to him.

We can hypothesise all kinds of scenarios that could occur off the kickoff, but the only guarantee is that we would've had 3 extra points.........
