The Wallabies make the long trek from Bleomfontein to Mendoza to finish our TRC campaign.

As near as I can tell it's about 30 hours plus in travel from Johannesburg to Buenos Aires via Sao Paulo followed by another flight to Mendoza.

The system is shite there's no doubt about that. I don't think the potential points exchange this weekend is exemplary of that though. The best recent example was the Dunedin Bledisloe game. If we had snuck home by 1 point we would have picked up 3 points and shot up to 3rd and NZ would have dropped 3 points and been within the sights of England. But we let in a late try and lost and there was absolutely zero change to either team because of the predetermined ranking points gulf between the teams. The formula needs more science to it than who has the home advantage,which side of 15 points the margin is, and the pre game differential between the 2 sides.

I think it is mostly just a case of there being very little between 3rd - 5th (Ireland, South Africa and Australia) than anything with the rankings system.

The draw dropped South Africa below Ireland.

Odd decision to send Arnold back to play NRC. After the performances of Rodda and Simmons on the weekend. I would have thought it would be a good time to give Arnold another run with Coleman? Arnold is always
Rodda and Simmons were adequate but every time Arnold plays he is very noticeable for multiple big carries and strong tackles. 50 minutes of him followed by a run by one of the others would be better and most likely a good indication of what will happen in the future.

I would have preferred starting with Arnold and Coleman, and Carter on the bench to reward form. Simmons is a player who just doesn’t deliver consistently enough to warrant being chosen every week.

Rodda and Tui, look the goods for future consideration though.

Cheika could have started Arnold and still have had Tui on the bench covering 6/8. Simmons the reserve lock. Easy, peasy. Don't have to be a rocket scientist, just smarter than the average bear (read Cheika).

Of course he could have started Arnold. He chose not to. Clearly he will be selecting 3 or 4 out of the locks he kept on tour.

Cheika obviously doesn't rate Arnold's form as much as you do.

It seems to me that sending home those three players if he had no intention of picking them this weekend makes sense. That's a huge amount of extra travel to put those players through for the benefit of attending a couple more training sessions.

BH, it is apparent from the many posts on these threads that quite a few other posters also hold the view that Coleman/Arnold has been the best locking combination the Wallabies have had over the past twelve months. We express our opinions despite being at odds with Cheika. I really do wonder if you have ever held an opposing view to the Wallabies' head coach?

In Perese's case (and probably Timani) why bring them at all? just injury cover?

Why have them travel 20 hours to South Africa to start with then?

Maybe Rodda and Tui were taken along (like perese) for the experience of travelling with the squad - the intention was for Timani and Arnold to play.

They both trained so poorly that they lost their spots to the youngsters, and have now been sent home to regain form in the NRC.
