Aussie Player Exodus

John S

Ken Catchpole (46)
As good as he is in League, he might be good in union, he might not. At his age surely our dollars are better spent on bringing through some 10s in union, try to stop the flood going off shore etc.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting a super rugby side/RA sign him but that he could be a target for a French club. Be closer to he European based girlfriend

I think he's going to be a one Club legend in that sport which will carry him for the rest of his life. He's 27 and is a legitimate chance at retiring as all time leading point scorer, half a dozen prems, half a dozen SOOs and a couple WCs.

The biggest opportunity for a move will come when Ivan decides he's had enough IMO.

I get Rugby can quickly improve with a few talented guys, especially when we are lacking in positions these hypothetical players would plug into but having watched some of the performances of guys 22 and under in the last few years I'd rather spend it on keeping 10-15 of these guys and backing that 3-4 become world class players that win Tests for the Wallabies for the next decade and improve the status of the game to a point it becomes an employer of choice again.

A different sort of exodus - and not really one which impacts us currently but still interesting.

Cheika off to coach at the Roosters.

Good on him... have a crack mate. I never liked him as Tah coach and the Wallabies he stuck around too long. But his time on Stan, and the knowledge he has is great. He will be great in the NRL, and hopefully comes back to Rugby after.

Reports out of New Zealand are that Reesjan Pasitoa is close to signing with the Highlanders for 2026. Was really hoping he would end up in Aus getting another opportunity. Kiwi background, so probably wont seem him in Aus again.

The biggest hurdle for him playing is his body. I hope for his sake he can get that right.

Good luck to him. Nobody in Aus Rugby can be too jaded and I really don't expect too much from him there either.

He's getting real close to being a hyped junior with a bag of tricks that could never pull it all together. He's talented enough to float around as a pro for a long time though.

Highlanders might be a bit of surprise next year. Not going to challenge for the trophy but picked up Jacomb as well. Ta'avao, Lavanini and extensions to key guys.

Tbf, Jacomb is from 2027 onwards. Think the two standout signings from a Landers POV will be Lucas Casey and Xavier Tito-Harris.
