Two different things going on.

Jiff eligibility benefits his club - they have to have a certain number in their 23, so the club wants that (3 years in the academy gets that tick)

Then there's French eligibility, which would be the same for everyone else. 5 years after he is first registered for a French club (assuming there is no family connection)

So I guess the next junction is in 3 years time, if he's playing well, we offer him less money to leave the the South of France for Wallaby gold...

Scotland have pinched Callum Reidy, he is a quality young colts/Reds Academy halfback.
Was born in Scotland so they've pulled him into the U20s squad, can expect a contract from one of the Scottish clubs to follow.

It feel more and more like Australia is being seen as a feeder systems for European rugby, much like the Pacific Islands of the last 30 odd years have been.

Is he quality? I know it's not the point overall but a bit like Michael MacDonald?

Unless WR (World Rugby) can do something to even control Clubs it's cooked. I know Aus and NZ have players from the PIs for years but we do exist in the same region and many come to Aus for other reasons other than Rugby and kids are then raised in our systems. The French system going after High Schoolers is a lot more predatory.

Just copy what FIFA do, believe they have to be at least 18.

Probably not the same level but they'll test him out and if he can plug a gap and hold his position it can often be enough if he's an interior lineman. The guys a bit wider need good lateral movement but that can be worked on. Natural size cannot.

Presumably didn't make the Australian one so this is plan B. At least he's actually eligible for Scotland by birth, not the most marginal defection I've ever seen.

I apologise Kemeny, I did you dirty.

Northampton beat Leinster at home, holy shit, what a brilliant game. Won by 3 points, should’ve even won by more. Freeman, Fin Smith, Mitchell and Pollock were all incredible along with Ramm and Kemeny. Especially Kemeny, he outclassed Van Der Flier and Doris, was everywhere.

Prendergast has talent but still too green.

Odds of pulling him home? I remember he was in the form of his life before he left.

Gleeson, Leota and Hooper all leaving really opens the door, but he's unfortunately still got another year on his contract. I reckon he'll be a target to return for 2027, but there's plenty of rugby to play out between now and then where other guys (like Champion de Crespigny) can fill that void at a national level. If he did sign for 2027 early he could get called up for the 2026 EOYT though.

It's his Northampton teammate Angus Scott-Young who could come back sooner, but that's probably going to need to be driven by a super side before he can make a case for higher honours.
