Brumbies fans have been keen on getting a new stadium for quite a while. They just never realised until now that the location they wanted the new stadium built was Parramatta.
maybe this kind of rattling of the cage is the kind of kick that the ACT Govt needs to invest in some proper facilities.

AFL and Cricket leverage their position so much better then Rugby/NRL have, especially in Canberra. Until the ACT Govt guarantees that there will be some kind of stadium upgrade that improves the financial viability of a rugby union team in the territory, then rugby shouldn't be guaranteeing that the Brumbies will remain there. Otherwise the long-term viability of the Brumbies in Canberra will remain in doubt.

I think the ACT's biggest issue in this regard is that it's such safe Labor territory Federally that no government of either persuasion is going to be encouraged to pour money into funding a new stadium.

The ACT budget itself is pretty small and it's hard to see them going to similar lengths as Tasmania pledging big money towards a stadium to secure a team.

Not so safe as it was perhaps only a few years ago. Not that it will move markedly to the conservative side, but independents are making inroads and Labor is pretty much going backwards at Territory level. Just needs Bam Bam to get some supporters to stand locally and it will throw a big scare into the major parties.

It is a set of thinking worthy of consideration when looking at tactics. That said, throwing out ultimatums where one of the alternatives is self-harm is rarely smart, especially when the decision maker does not match the same concerns and interests as the ultimatum maker.

It may be that RA are cool with whatever the result is, that is not the case for Brumbies fans. That in itself makes it prudent for the Brumbies to give RA the single finger unless they spell out their intentions and put some better solidity behind it than statement from a CEO who has been regularly sidestepped by the Chair.

Brumbies position seem entirely logical to me.

I doubt RA are cool with whatever result, the best result is facilities and infrastructure which improve the financial viability of the Brumbies In Canberra.

ACT Govt has invested in Cricket and AFL stadium upgrades and pays a sizeable fee for a team which isn’t even based in Canberra, yet the current rectangular stadium is quite frankly dog shit. Even half a dozen regional cities in Australia have better rectangular stadiums these days, let alone capital Cities.

Ultimately Brumbies want/need money going forward, whether thats through added match-day revenue from stadium improvements, increased ACT Govt grants or RA distributions, they’ll need one of those to crack and that’s the predicament they are in, and what needs to be determined from any negotiations.

I hear you, and all indications from Waugh are consistent with it. All the same, I understand the Brumbies wanting some security as to what RA actions may follow.

I can only agree on the potential through RA centralisation - for the Brumbies not just the rugby franchises generally - I'm just a little jaded with RA. Not just a little.

Not too concerned from a Wallabies perspective. Only insofar as until he sorts out his discipline, I don't think we should pick him. If he does sort it out in France, I think he has a strong enough skillset to justify being an overseas exception pick, especially given slots used on older talent (Quade, Foley, Marika, Richie Arnold) will presumably be freed up very soon. I can very easily see a world where that is the case, with a change in environment and coaching letting him calm down that side of his game.

Global calendar can't come soon enough.

page not found, what club?
Swinton gone (link not working),

In a warning sign for Australian rugby to get their ducks in a row sooner rather than later, Waratahs hardman Lachie Swinton is set to sign with French Top 14 club Bordeaux.

The Roar can reveal that the 26-year-old international back-rower will leave Australian rugby following next year’s Super Rugby season.

Swinton was offered an extended deal with the Waratahs and a Rugby Australia top-up, but without a director of national rugby in place, nor a Wallabies coach to negotiate with, and other back-rowers like Rob Valetini and Rob Leota already signed on long-term deals, neither party was in a strong position to try and retain the back-rower.

In the end, Swinton couldn’t turn down an offer worth more than $500,000 – around double what he would have received by staying at the Waratahs.

The kinda depth loss that continually undermines us.
Its this point. Lack of depth means less competition driving our players.

Is he a huge loss? Not in isolation and I don't blame him either. He had some injuries that were pretty touchy and seemed career shortening at the time. French Clubs seem to look past the behaviour more than others. If Tolu Latu is able to pick up contracts anyone can.
