I’m not trying to get all reflective here…

But in this case ‘legacy’ is ultimately how others perceive you. Some people care more about the experience for themselves than how it’s remembered by others.
Yeah, don't see why legacy matters. Regardless, thirty years time down the pub, he can look back and smile over the fact he's had life experiences the bulk of us could only dream of. This thread is starting to read of copium and delulu.

My post with those terms were about the language in his post, not his personal decision in going over and coming back. Agree that he will probably cherish the memory.

Disappointing these guys earn just as much to sit on a training field for 2 years as they do in Rugby because you’d hope when they just aren’t making the actual rosters they might stay in Rugby.

I guess it’s no different to them going to France and being gone from Aus Rugby.

I just don’t think ‘Follow Your Dreams (but don’t kid yourself’) has the same ring to it on the motivation circuit

Chargers may have the Reds’ injured list social media intern or it may be that Petaia’s natural game is nothing like the NFL. You don’t get to wander around and inject yourself as you see fit there and that’s what makes him special here.

He was listed as a substitute, not a Did Not Play in the official records, so may have got on somewhere. Didn't record a stat though

There's no active player limit for preseason games so literally everyone on the roster that isn't on an injured reserve (PUP/IR/NFI) list should be listed there.

It's not a marketing or charity play but a financial one. The spots Louis and JP are on are exempt from their roster cap due to the NFL wanting to grow their international roots and not penalise a team for giving up a coverted spot.

It's a marketing ploy for sure, and the success of this is debatable(both from a marketing metric, and success rate of players), calling players charity cases is a bit disrespectful though
I’m sure there’s 48 Petaia Chargers jerseys walking around SEQ. They think it’s still San Diego Chargers but that isn’t the point.

It's a marketing ploy to increase the global presence of the NFL and its finances.
They want to grow their international roots by leveraging the IPP program for increased marketing in those countries. The NFL has a whole Global Markets Program which uses initiatives like the IPP, hosting NFL games(Melbourne 2026) and other partnerships to grow its international presence.

Closest thing in Australian Rugby would be the example of the Reds signing Goromaru all those years back with the intent of increasing the Reds brand in Japan.
