I feel oddly calm about the game tonight. Clearly the AB's were superior and punished our mistakes utterly ruthlessly, but I felt that greater accuracy would have seen the score a lot closer. We appeared to be trying the right kinds of things in attack and I can see the game plan Link is trying to implement, but the execution was lacking. I feel we will improve from that and obviously we have to. As others have said, supporting lines weren't up to scratch and hurt us when the Kiwi's were able to convert turnover possession into points regularly. We were impatient at times as well, especially when offloading in contact or clearing from the ruck area. With that said, there were passages of play that were quite encouraging I thought. The lineout was excellent too. I had no idea how the scrums were going to pan out and we made some mistakes, but I have to say that I like the new laws. A good scrum will still get full value for their dominance.
I would go with more or less the same line up next week. These guys need another chance to improve on the execution of the plan Link clearly has.

Unfortunately what could've been a pretty good debut was marred by the spilled ball for that AB's try........

Hasn't he made every single kick he's had at goal in tests? Or something very close, golden that is (although he doesn't take the long kicks).
I actually watched the game on Ten. "The voice of rugby", Matt Burke, Craig Dowd. Was actually very enjoyable. They have John Eales as well and he's just a champion. Mortlock stuttering about is fun as well.
Comparing that to a Kearns/Marto combo (and I assume) boring old Clarkie. Geez, no comparison.

First test for To'omua but still way too one-dimensional for my liking.
Simple fact is if we want to beat the AB's then we need to score points - other than from penalties at least. MT shoveled that ball the whole time he was on tonight and Lilo was running the attack from second receiver. Maybe that was the game plan but we need to create some indecision in the defense.
That said, the forwards lacked a good deal of punch. I am not a fan of Simmons but felt he had one of his better games - not that this is a good thing as it just showed us that even when he is playing well he has little to offer. Wondering if the "C" beside Horwill's name is saving his butt right now. He was fairly anonymous from where I sat. He tries his guts out but can be pretty darn ineffective.

Completely agree and thumbs up isn't enough on this one.
AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) is one of the few solid pillars in the Wobs, he shouldn't be moved around to accommodate players who don't perform as well or as consistently. He should be one of the rocks that Link builds his team around.
I've always been an advocate of play your best players in their best position where they can hurt the opposition most. Then if need be make the marginal call players play out of position as the last name of the team sheet.
Ideally no one would be playing out of position, but it moving your best players and making them less effective is just crazy.

Mogg was worse than I thought he mite be. His kicks for touch off penalties had Mrs Bullrush almost falling off the couch laughing. Folau has been the best FB in Aussie since about Week 4 of the Super Rugby, play him there. It also gets him involved more.
Biggest problem is the forward pack. Hooper was outstanding but the rest were either average or worse including the Capt.
Moore was great on the Fox Sport desk after-match though. Prob a bit harsh calling him average....

Never said he had a good game. Was just agreeing that he did some good things in the game. Apart from Hooper and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) I wouldn't say any Wob player covered themselves in glory, doesn't mean everything they did was bad though.
And I apologise to whoever it was I took exception to for saying Mogg's defence was non existent.:-(

Horwill getting some flack here....
I actually thought he was okay, and his ball running was the best it's been for a while. But then again, we got fucked at the breakdown, and he's one of the players who are responsible for that area of play.

Congratulations to the AB's for putting on a clinic. 6 tries to 2 and showing who is boss for the umpteenth time.
There seemed to be a lot of nerves from the new guys and at this level that will be your undoing (Think Pat Howard at Carisbrook)
Some quick observations:

Slipper had a good game in general play and in the scrums.
Hooper was not far behind trying to do his best in the breakdown against that ABs pack.
MMM has been away from Tests for a while and it showed.

To'omua didn't attack the line like he'd shown in Super Rugby.

I was quite surprised by the wallabies performance tonight with so much hype regarding this brand of ''attacking rugby.''
Things I noticed tonight:
- Horwill was a waste of space other than one or two hit-ups. He may have passion for the jersey but he needs to step up his game. No aggression whatsoever.
- Genia is the best halfback in the world by a mile and is ever so consistent. Don't think he should ever captain the wallabies though. I thought Nic White did a great job in the last 10.
- Mogg cannot tackle.
- Folau's body language tonight is a concern to me. Slightly worried he may be going back to league.
- Lealifano and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) had a great game. To'omua linking up with them will only get better over time.
- Hooper had a superb game. 3 Pilfers and one penalty turnover. I think that shuts up the critics.
- The scrum did relatively well albeit the one that led to the try.
- Simmons had a cracker with line outs and kick offs. needs to fix up his discipline though.
- Wallabies are missing Palu, Higginbotham and Pocock.
- Slipper and Sio are both really mobile props and EM should be looking to put at sio at 1 and slips at 3.

Does anyone else think that genia seems to make some bad decisions at times in matches such as slow ball from rucks, stupid box kicks & some of his passing options tonight seemed ordinary? MT was ordinary. Bernard Foley offers much more in attack. Thought QC (Quade Cooper) provided much more options in attack when he came on.
