Scarfman
Knitter of the Scarf
G’day, Scarfman here.
Today is a special day. The Yellow Scarf forum is 3 years old today. :yay And what an amazing 3 years it’s been. It’s hard to believe that we’ve gone from a forum with 1 member to the complete entertainment juggernaut of G&GR in just three years. When I started the forum, I remember talking to NTA about one day getting media accreditation, of providing a live call of matches, and just simply being the best rugby media outlet in Australia. Well, I feel that all that, and more, has been accomplished.
Which is why I feel that I’m now able to step down from my role as an admin of G&GR. I’ll still be posting here, and I’ve got a couple of videos up my sleeve, but I won’t be running it any more. One reason - as you can guess - is that it’s been really hard work! There are times I’ve hardly been able to watch rugby I’ve been spending so much time keeping things running. The other reason is that the forum is evolving past the point where one guy needs to be the boss. These days, there’s a core of senior members who are more than capable of self-moderating, and of letting new guys know when they’re not posting in the spirit of this place.
Going forward, Gagger and Moses will continue as the admins of G&GR. Lee Grant and barbarian are both full moderators, but will particularly be looking at the Grassroots forum. They’ve already made great progress over the last 3 months in bringing that forum more into line with the rest of the place. RugbyReg (Noddy) will be stepping up on the main forum, and will be responsible for responding to reported posts. Finally, we’ve added two new awesome moderators: cyclopath and Austin. Please make them welcome, of course, but above all, fear them.
Before I step down, I want to make a short Oscar speech and thank a few people. First of all, I want to thank all the early members who came across the ditch with me. People like NTA, PaarlBok, Scotty, Sully, Thomond78, fatprop, Red Bull, OZGOD, Aussie D, Lee Grant, rustycruiser, Virgil, Major Spliff Biggins, Ash, naza, Cutter, Blue, Lindommer, ACT Crusader, and spectator: thank you for being there in the first couple of months. Without your faith in the new site, we’d have never got anywhere. I also want to thank all current and past mods for helping to set the tone of what is surely the most reasonable and readable sports forum on the internet. I also want to particularly thank Jonnosan for setting up all the tech with me in the first place. I can still see him hunched over my PC while I pace up and down behind him.
Last of all, I think we all want to thank Gagger, Moses and all the blog boys and girls for really making this place something special. Even if I wanted to, I couldn’t stay away from the front page, which has by far the best rugby journalism in Australia, in a very readable and reliable format. I’m constantly amazed at the new heights that these guys achieve. In fact, I’m only able to step down because I have complete confidence in Gagger and Moses and the direction they’re taking the site. The Ruggapedia is another fantastic development, and I know there’s more to come.
So, that’s it. Thanks everyone for being a unique group on this journey together. Most of all, please form an orderly queue to line up to kick my arse now that I can’t ban you!
All the best
