It's huge. Holloway definitely a key ingredient. Couple of issues on the lift bringing the jumper down over the line. Though mostly that was entanglement between opposing jumpers.

The line out improvement is immense. Let's see how we go against the Springboks though.
I honestly think the biggest difference is in the throwing from FF (Folau Fainga'a) et al. Far fewer that aren’t straight

Haha. Work smarter, not harder. I don’t have the discipline to watch a game on repeat without knowing the result. Yes, I peaked at my Christmas presents as a kid.
EDIT: I actually deleted the original post as I was mucking about and wasn’t sure I got that across
haha nah i got you.

I'll only do it for games like this and only if i watch it first thing in the morning when i get up, and you just have to put down all devices until the game is over, with the number of notifications and apps that show score updates etc these days you cant risk looking.

Yep was impressed with his throwing, better targets helped as well but i though his throwing was spot-on most of the night

Paisami still an easy target at international level. Put Valetini/Tupou or someone who can gain some meters at 12

ESPN has him at 8 runs for 42m. Pretty bloody solid when you consider they were all through contact.

Compared to:
Valetini 9 runs 48m
Tupou 5 runs 1

You can't compare a number 8 running through the piggies against a pretty boy at the backline

It seems FF (Folau Fainga'a) has really sorted out his throwing. His last 2 games have been superb and not just at the line-out. He is a genuine try-scoring threat 5 metres from the line and at the back of any maul. Porecki is so consistent but I think FF (Folau Fainga'a)'s last 2 games have been better then anything Porecki has shown. He just seems more dominate in contact.

I still think the consistency should give Porecki the edge. And FF (Folau Fainga'a) still doing annoying niggle stuff.

The other thing I liked about FF (Folau Fainga'a)’s game is the minder role he played with White. A few feared Swain would be targeted by the Pumas but Cheika obviously had them targeting White. Mainly by the big forwards. He obviously got sucked in a little but FF (Folau Fainga'a) was generally first there making his presence felt. The ref warned him but Folau was only standing his aground against the Puma thugs. Exactly what he should have.

Interestingly you could clearly see them target Cooper with every chance they got whether it was run at his channel or kick high balls to him when he was at the back. Such a shame he got injured, he was just starting to get into his groove.

Finally watched it…

Swain certainly redeemed himself - my MOTM.

I think Philip’s spot might be in trouble for next week if Arnold is good to go.

FF (Folau Fainga'a) with probably his best starting gig.

Paisami, Ikitau, Petaia and Wright all played really well too.

You’ve discredited your own argument there, Marce…

No, it's harder to run at the base of the scrum so a number 8 can run the lines of an inside centre but not the other way around.

In 2011 Radike Samo played at the wing but Drew Mitchell could never have replaced him

Radike played wing in the Wallabies’ last pool game against Russia in the middle of a massive injury crisis… he also used to play on the wing when he was younger.

To suggest that a prop or 8 is a better shout playing inside centre (which, by the way, is not just running lines) than a specialist 12/13 is one of your wilder ones, Marce. Can never tell if you’re trolling or not, but I sincerely hope you are.

Been away for the weekend and watched the replay this afternoon. That was some second half performance from the boys. I've said it before but they play with so much heart and have overcome some shocking circumstances at times this season. I have to feel at some point some luck will run their way and they'll smack some opposition sides.

I was impressed with the new back row. McReight and Holloway looked at home at test level and this could well be the combo going forward. With enormous respect to Hoops, the back row we played last night had a good balance of ball running, line out, abraisiveness, link play and work at the breakdown. I wouldn't be unhappy with it going forward if Michael is unavailable for an extended period.

Losing Quade was a blow and I fear that this is the last time we'll see him in gold. He was starting to control that game when he got injured. Hodge did a good job when he came on but the structured attack noticeably dropped off for mine. Reece is good as a stop gap at 10, but Noah will surely come back in now.

Set piece good, breakdown OK (we need to stop opposition teams from making a nuisance of themselves), defence good. I like the fact that they chanced their arm at the end in pursuit of the bonus point. Good intent there.

Now let's back it up next week boys.

Add my two cents - anyway you cut it this was a great win. Really satisfying and definitely what the team needed after coming up short in the england series. I suspect it could be a tough season considering the players that will be unavailable but hopefully the chance to grow the depth within the squad will pay off next year, and with that said the big takeaway for me was the quality performance from some of our younger players - Valetini, swain, tupou, McReight, paisami, ikitau, petaia...all guys that could potentially still in their prime come 2027. All guys that have the making of world class players.
Hooper for me has looked a bit burnt out this season and so while its tough to lose him the silver lining is that McReight gets some experience before the world cup. I dont think McReight is the finished product but the chance to play some tests this year will help him reach his potential sooner rather than later.
- jed hollaway looks to have the makings of a good test 6. Definitely would give him another start next week
