I don't care if he is paid $1 or $1B. He isn't doing his job, he must go. Resentment towards Giteau? no. Resentment towards his place in the team and his selection? yes.

I can't see fans venting their outrage helping Giteaus performances. He's a confidence player who's recently had 2 significant kicking failures for the Wabbs. Taking him off kicking duties isn't going to help that confidence but he seems to lose his rhythm when asked to make a difficult kick from his bad side. The answer? IMO he needs to be benched for a while so he can get his head in the right place. Then bring him back minus the kicking duties later in the season. Barnes looked okay in game 1 or we bring back a ball runner.

Nothing creates confidence like getting benched... ::)

The guys from Rugby Heaven try to explain the fans' resentment:

......

Also - I note that Robbie is looking at left and right hand side kickers. Fantastic idea Robbie, but you must be receiveing an archived version of Green and Gold Rugby. Whatever we suggest, you implement 12 months later.

The most remarkable turn of events in my morning today was RD's revelation to Wayne S that he was actively considering bringing back the 'old guard' (Baxter, Waugh, etc) for the RWC 2011 and that 'we are well on track for that (RWC)'. I know the Deans fans will see in this some complex hidden insight, but why would these players be desirable only then and not now?

We have all seen the Deans' latest w-l stats and that we have now dropped to no 4 on the irb teams ladder. I see that many of RD's supporters have told us in recent days that these outcomes do not really matter, at this time.

heheheh I hear you and I agree but hear me out. The guy isn't handling the pressure but he's an undoubted talent that we need. The pressure and expectation is affecting his game in a big way. The best way to remove that pressure is to take him out of the limelight for a while and let him get his head right. On form he deserves to be first picked but he's been struggling since before the euro tour last year and being the backline top dog isn't working for him.

rsea - I think a problem with G that we are all debating is that, in say the last 12 months, G's 'confidence is up' better overall games have tended to come vs the easy beats, as distinct from the genuinely tight and high-pressure games vs the top teams we have played where it is often the case that 'confidence is down' and negative consequences for the team flow from that.

I have said elsewhere that IMO G is way below his peak and probably requires a 'deep refresh' or sabbatical from the game...or perhaps as you suggest becoming a bench player until (let's hope) his best - and the required consistency - returns.

The only person I'd consider replacing Giteau with is James O'Connor, the other possibilities don't add anything really. Barnes? He has become one of the more disappointing players over the last year and considering both are flat-lining in form I'd prefer Giteau. Fainga'a? Didn't really take his chances in the BaaBaas game, but I loved how he played outside Cooper at the Reds. I think another season of Super 14/15 and he could be more of a possibility. James O'Connor has the ability to actually do something special that Giteau has, and is the only one out of the other potential inside Centres who has it. The other thing I'd love to see is AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) and Ione standing at inside centre often throughout the game and making strong Nonu-esque runs.

Yep, he's always been effective when running off a quality play maker but his transition to play maker (post Larkham) hasn't worked. Great success V minnows but V quality? Not so much.
So whats the best way to turn him back into the player he was previous to the fly half experiment? It's to late for a sabbatical now. I doubt he'll play for the wabbs post WC anyway....

Maybe Deans is a longer term prospect than we think, if he was super smart he might be breeding a team for the 2015 World cup with our current pack, Bring back an experienced team to win 2011 and then move towards 2015 with a team with 100+ games behind them.

I doubt this is the tactic but if it means dominance for many years to come then so be it!

Looks like Giteau has a section of a news website with a few coaching videos.

If the link doesn't work, click on Giteau's rugby in the footer.

Considering recent events, is anyone rushing to watch "Video 1: Goal kicking. Matt shows you step-by-step how to take a goal kick including tips on kicking under pressure."

Gagger - I was not in the GAGR community then, but I do think this suggestion you made was prescient. His 'inconsistent phases' started to worsen (as I recall) at the beginning of last year's Tris. Different situation/person I know, but J Wilkinson raves about the benefits and 'total refresh' he feels he's obtained in Toulon.
