We need to calm down a bit. So we had an off night. Better now than in the quarters. The reds lost badly to the tahs early on and then went on a record winning streak. They again had a shocker against the brumbies and then went on to win the title. The wallabies got belted by the blacks in Auckland and then rose to win the trinations.

If the wallabies have to face the boks and the blacks 2 games in a row to make the final, so be it. Nobody cares who comes second through eighth, all that matters is who wins.

We have beaten the boks the last 5/6 times and the blacks the last 2/3.

Don't give up know Australia, and get behind our team!

I was more dissapointed in the way we lost, not so much the actual result. Sure, we should have had Irelands measure but they certainly showed up far more determined and disciplined on the night and outplayed us in all facets of the game, to their credit. For mine, I was more so dissapointed in the tactics we used in key parts of the game and certain individual performances. Robbie had me on the brink of cardiac arrest by not using the bench when it was so clear that we needed them, I have no clue what he was trying to prove.

Regardless, you are right. We have the potential to beat these teams and perhaps a loss will be the catalyst for a re-energised, less complacent wallabies team latter in the tournament. But Jesus Christ, we made it more difficult for ourselves than it should be.

At this point I think our saviour might be experience, something our rested players have alot of. Our XV on the weekend proved that when down, they don't have the fighting qualities to fight back and for mine that was very disappointing, sure Horwill has to take responsibility for that but imagine the impact Sharpe would have had if on the field and down by 3 points against the Irish. We will be a completely different side with the return of Moore and Pocock but it's time to cut the players who are costing us dearly and bring back those who have proven form and the desire to win at all costs (i.e Sharpe for Vicks, Palu for Samo, Mitchell for Fainga'a, Barnes for McCabe).

GO THE WALLABIES.

Yeah, I don't think it is the actual loss but the way we played (as light said). The Irish played fucking good, but we were abysmal. I mean I have never watched a game of any sport where I have been that furious at the way the side played, even one of my mates put a hole through his wall he was that appalled by the performance, and I dont blame him.

There was something about it, not just the score, or even the performance as such, it was just the way the team and coaching staff handled it. I hate saying it, but I honestly cannot see us winning the WC now. I hope to god they do, and I will still watch every minute and support them passionatly, but the way we folded and performed under the circumstances was disgusting.

Might sound harsh, but that's the way I saw it.

Yes the Wannabes will make the quarters, but team changes are needed so that combinations can work, forwards need a rev-up fast! and the Wannabes need a clear thinking general to make decisions-Horvilles the man. Step it up and play with confidence! Win the remaining games nothing less will do. Senior players need to take leadership roles too. Coaching staff make subs early not 5mins to go-thats silly. Can you recall Matt Gitaeu(big loss-has exp) Give Barnes and Mitchell game time you'll need them come the KO phase.
The Wannabes can do it just keep the faith!

I have to agree that all is not lost. As an outsider I am a bit amazed at how quickly the Aussie fans and media turn on the Wallabies.

Wallabies finally beat NZ in Japan last year- suddenly they are the best team ever and all is good
They lose to Samoa - it's a total disaster, and heads must roll
Wallabies win the Bledisoe - the team is amazing and Deans is a God
Lose to Ireland - the team is shit, Deans is a fool, and the media and fans claim to have known it all along.

They are still a great team, with some obvious problems. The talent is definitely there, the coaching is there. The biggest problem is consistency and experience. As soon as you rattle the Wallabies they lose focus, be it on the field or off field. This is where the experience and leadership of guys like Sharpe and Moore, and Vickerman are needed. Once they settle everyone's nerves, and the team can regain its senses, the victories will come.

That said, we can still win this thing, it's just going to be a more complicated and difficult road.

I predict this team will beat the Boks and the AllBlacks before getting over confident and choking against England in the Final.

To be honest I would prefer we got dropped in the group stages than lost to England again. That would be the end of me.

Fair deuce. I was being a complete d*ck, but I can't stay mad at that avatar. So happy :)

We got the point, and it's a good one. The Australian media is bipolar with its assessment of the Wallabies. We're never as bad or as good as they say. This World cup is still there to be won!

Having overcome my initial urge to throw myself off the nearest cliff on Saturday night, after a couple of days of reflection, I am back on the bandwagon.

One way of looking at is, is if we compare the potential matches after coming 1st and 2nd in the pool, there is an argument to say they are not really that different.

If we came 1st in the pool, the likely route to final would have been:
QF - Wales
SF - England
F - Kiwis

By coming second, the likely route is:
QF - South Africa
SF - Kiwis
F - England

So we would still meet the kiwis and england either way. The only game we have really swapped is the quarters with south africa. Now, of course you always worry when you meet a trinations side. But going in our favour is:

Since the beginning of 2010 we have won 4 out of 5 against the boks
This includes the last 3 in a row, 2 of those in South Africa itself
By and large, we know what South Africa will bring to the table. (I doubt they will be changing their kick chase game any time soon)
They are an aging team
They are coached by a first class clown

Of course, I'm singling out the positives and deliberately not going to talk about the negatives, but all in all, facing them is not the worst task in the world. Then if we get past them, we would have had to beat the kiwis and poms anyway. So... well, all is not lost. And maybe in the process we have managed to defuse some of the kiwi public pressure which has been at boiling point since we took out the Tri nations.

I agree completely. We had to beat NZ and England to win the WC.... no matter where we ended up.
The only difference is Wales or SA... and to be honest, I'd rather play SA. The Welsh could do an Ireland on us... whilst I think we've got SA's measure.

Wallabies need a good kick in the pants every 3-4 games to remember what it takes. This loss will do the trick nicely.
