All Blacks vs Kangaroos?

rugboy

Jim Clark (26)
The Kangaroos could pick a host of former Rugby Schoolboy stars to ensure they had basic skills to be competitive, particularly with uncontested scrums and no lineouts. The biggest rule the would swing the balance would be how far the defence had to be back. If it is anywhere near League's 10 metres then they would dominate.

It can't really work, they are now totally different sports, rugby is about the ability to compete for the ball at every interaction, league has little, to no, competition for the ball, so scrums, lineouts, rucks, mauls and the simple stripping of the the ball have been removed

That has removed the need for the specialists and they have been replaced by generalists who play only right or left of the play the ball

If something as stupid as this happened, I can understand no scrums(safety) and if you cut out lineouts etc, but it's not just that, from my understanding there would be no rucks and mauls either? That is not even a hybrid game , that's just league.

There is a precedent to this. Not sure how many of you are familiar with "Clash of the Codes" that happened in 1996 between Wigan (RL) and Bath. One game under league rules, one under union rules.

At the time both teams were the respective champions of their codes and each team contained many well recognised names.

Wigan flogged Bath in the League match 76-8. The only alteration to the rules in that game was to allow Bath unlimited interchange.

The union match was closer however Bath won pretty comfortably 44-19. There were contested scrums however they were only partially contested for safety reasons.

There was one of these piles of shit played years ago, at one scrum the rugby side did a basic shove, the league scrum came up swinging

A few years ago - one of the NRL sides actually shoved in a scrum. Caused a furore. Mind you, contested league scrums were an absolute charnel house back in the good old, bad old, days. Only suitable for the bravest of the brave. Or the stupidest.

Considering two of the NZ Warriors players currently won't be allowed to return to NZ with the rest of the team because they are not NZ citizens I can't see this happening.

There are so many iterations of the Kangaroos' forward pack you could have. In the row, I'd be more likely to start Klem with someone like Reagen Campbell Gillard. I'd actually swap Wade Graham and David Fifita. A lot better wingers than Rapana available imo, I think Josh Addo-Carr is a better pick. Te'o has Union experience but is past it, I'd prefer someone like Kotoni Staggs or maybe even Jack Wighton for a bit more size.

Reckon Nathan Brown is big enough for loosehead? Addin Fonua-Blake would be pretty handy.

The problem with the hybrid game is that with depowered scrums and lineouts, rugby has to make changes to the side they'd pick to be more suited to the game but league doesn't.

League players with some rugby experience would probably be worthwhile for breakdowns but the forward pack a rugby team chose would be pretty different. You probably wouldn't pick a genuine lock and the only props I'd consider picking would be Tupou and maybe Ala'alatoa.

Yep most front rowers and locks would be a liability because of the lack of speed and agility. Need players that win collisions as well

In saying that though i wouldn't mind giving Skelton a run in a hypothetical RU/RL game featuring the Wallabies. Can't think of anyone that matches him in size in rugby league. Even Payne Hass doesn't match up

Big Nelson Asofa-Solomona would come close but Skelton’s ball skills are a lot better.
