I want to read more on W.Oldboy7s beef with Paul. Put your back into it fella

press release from NZRFU:

My issues with GP are:

1. He routinely makes basic errors of fact, such as berating the then-ARU for setting up the Force before giving the Rebels time to establish themselves. He's far from the only Hurld writer who does it, which tells you all you need to know about the quality & perhaps quantity of the sub-editing staff, but in the age of Google it's unforgivable.

2. His propensity to wildly extrapolate on actual facts, even when he contradicts himself in the same article. His piece on ticket sales for Yokohama is a classic example: sluggish sales potentially resulting in a crowd of ~40K in a 72K-seat stadium is portrayed as a big problem for NZR when in his own words JRFU are underwriting the match therefore it doesn't matter if the place is full or empty, NZR's exposure is nil.

3. His tendency to wait for other commentators to have their say then come out a day or two later & put forward a similar point of view as if he's the first to have thought of it.

I'll forgive him his Auck-love 'cos every one else is just as bad in that regard.

Does anyone know which if any of the coaching staff are now in England & who stayed in Japan? I see Shag's had a presser & fired back at the Pom hacks who reckon he's throwing out caps like confetti but the accompanying pix all look like stock photos so I'm not sure if he's in Tokyo or London. Main point of interest for me would be if Shag's in London & Foster's in Tokyo.

Think only some of the trainers etc went to London, all the rest stayed in Japan. Seems right as they doing promotional stuff on weekend in Pommie land!

^^^^^^^^ I did wonder if they might take the opportunity to hand Foster the reins for the week.

Match officials:

Referee: Matthew Carley (England); Assistant Referees: Damon Murphy (Australia), Graham Cooper (Australia); TMO: Damien Mitchelmore (Australia)

MAB v USA match preview:

Dan54 gets his wish with Mitch Karpik named in the run-on side. He'll be fairly easy to spot being the only blond (unless some others have been to the hairdresser lately) guy out there. Looking forward to the USA comms explaining that one to their local audience!

I recognise everyone in that team except for Dalton Papalii and Brett Cameron. What's the word on these lads, future stars?

Papali'i certainly has the makings of an excellent player. Cameron much less so. Over the course of two NPC matches -- one regular season and the final -- he was outplayed by his Auckland (title winning :)) opposite, and wouldn't be on the tour if Otere Black hadn't spent the last 12 months hobbling around on one leg.

Oooh looks like that was held up, but either way, good capitalisation on a litany of mistakes by the ABs.

^^^^ came off a Japan player's chest & was next played at by a Japanese player in front of the first one. That's offside, isn't it? Also only went to ground after a Japan player dived in, collecting Laumape's lower back in the process. I love these guys but ffs Laws are still Laws aren't they?

Maybe not in a tier 2/3 country that's holding the RWC in less than a year and desperately needs to generate some interest?

During the half-time break I'm Googling "highest losing score v All Blacks".

EDIT: Google no use but stats.espnscrum.com tells me it's 37 by Wales at RWC 2003.

WOB, what do you feel abouty the ABs' tactic on opposition kickoff of two or three players moving backwards to the point where the ball is coming down to block the chasers getting at the catcher? Think they did it on most occasions but certainly after the try by the No 9.

Yeah I was thinking about that during the game, I didn't watch it closely enough but assumed it was clever positioning by the ABs and that they didn't actually move horizontally into the path of on coming Japanese players.
My limited knowledge is you can't move into their path?
