Hore injured in All Blacks blow
May 16, 2010

All Blacks hooker Andrew Hore could be out for the season.

All Blacks hooker Andrew Hore fears his rugby year could be over after dislocating a shoulder in Friday's Super 14 match between the NSW Waratahs and Wellington Hurricanes in Sydney.

Hore returned to Wellington Saturday saying he would be seeking further assessment but the initial diagnosis was not good.

"It could be six weeks or six months and if it's six months the season's over," he said. "I won't know too much till I see a few more doctors."

Hore was injured early in the match which the Waratahs won 32-16 to go through to the Super 14 semi-finals.

He is certain to miss next month's home Tests against Ireland and Wales and if he is sidelined for six months he will be unavailable for the Tri-Nations series and the end-of-year northern hemisphere tour.

Hore's injury is likely to see veteran Keven Mealamu reinstated as Test hooker but with no clear back-up for a position in which Aled de Malmanche, Hika Elliot and Corey Flynn have all been tried in recent years without securing a regular role.

what's the thinking on what the team will be this year?

I've lost track of injuries and length of them. Mils gone for the season? Sivi?

Yeah, I started this thread just so we could pool the known injuries. No dream teams please ;)

Oh and keep the current wave of annoying factionalism outta here.

This is from the All Blacks website, tacked on to a similar article to above:

First choice test wing Sitiveni Sivivatu is already out, along with locks Ali Williams and Jason Eaton.

Mils Muliaina and Tom Donnelly are currently injured, but the Chiefs captain’s broken thumb and Highlanders

lock’s ankle should recover in time to be considered later in the test season.

Hooker - Mealamu on legacy & Routledge from Highlanders has impressed. Although he keeps that kiwi trait of being a bloody awful lineout thrower.
Props - Franks brothers for sure, with probably Titalata as well
Locks - Thorn obviously, with Donnelly out, perhaps Boric. Unlikely Jack call up but anything possible
Flanks - Richie, Kaino, Read will def be the starting. Latimer, Vito, Lowe have all played well though and surely wider squad
Scrummie - Cowan to start, back up is a toughie. Reckon Saders Ellis or Fotuali'i might get the call but Mathewson has done well too
Flyhalfy - Well, it'll be DC, but he's forgotten how to kick. Brett likely to get called up unless the hype (but not the delivery) of Cruden has gotten to the selectors heads as well
Centres - will have to be Nonu & Smith (despite Nonu's awful penalty stats), probably McAlistar too. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ranger bolt though, he's got that x factor, if nothing else!
Wings - Jane, Guildford both HAVE to be there. Rokocoko on legacy and maybe Ben Smith at highlanders
Fullback - Toeava (if he's not injureD) and Mils if back.

thats my prediction anyway. Bear in mind I predicted Brumbies and Canes in the semi's pre this weekend though, so perhaps I'm not the right person to ask... :)

MR, what do you reckon about Maitland (Crusaders winger)? Bolter chance?

I can't see it really. Guildford & Jane are certainties (although Jane may play FB but with Mils apparently coming back could end that). I think when Ben Smith was picked last year they showed their hand from a bolter perspective. Rokocoko has been in good form too, so that's another.

Squad of 30 is likely to have 3 wingers & 2 fullbacks, so I'd expect Guildford, Jane, Toeava, Rokocoko & Mils. If Mils injured, he may well get a shot.

Seeing as alot of the AB locks are broken I'd love to see Sammy Whitelock get a crack. Yes, he is a kiwi but I like watching him play.

He is one of those tight forwards who loves the loose play but still gets down and dirty. Good prospect.

Supporters of the opponents of the UnZid national rugby team are wasting valuable [or worthless] time on speculation. Whatever the names may be, the UnZid national rugby team on match days will consist of 22 very fit, extremely skilled, well drilled, ambitious and committed players ... as it was, as it is, as it ever shall be.

Gotta be honest, I really dont think Tialata deserves a starting spot. Then again, I'd be happy to hear from someone who's seen more than four of his games this year.

Neither do I, but then again I never have.

Was just reminded of another player probably ahead of Maitland. Israel Dagg too - he's a quality quality footballer.

And Biffo, that maybe true, but it all depends how it goes on the day. Bledisloe 1, 2001 in Dunedin there were 22 very fit, extremely skilled, well drilled, ambitious and committed players in teh starting lineup, but the second they hit the paddock, there was a bunch of headless chickens!

Anything is possible

Smith is the best back they have - he is their brains, Ranger is an accident waiting to happen

All relying on one Richie McCaw to think for them, or at least to process Fr Teds orders, otherwise....

Speaking as an aussie - I'd be glad not to see Weepu there.. But I think he should be.

Ma'a Nonu ruled out of All Blacks

The news just gets worse and worse for All Blacks coach Graham Henry, with star second five-eighths Ma'a Nonu today ruled out for at least the first three tests of the year.

A Hurricanes medical report today revealed that Nonu ruptured the posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during the Super 14 round-robin finale against the Waratahs in Sydney last weekend.

How about Nanai-Williams as a bolter at 15?

Moses,
I don't think he's test standard yet, he'd be one of those players that shines when the AB's are thumping someone but would go missing in a thriller.

You want players like the bloke in your picture, superb defender, hard hitter, hard runner & no frills when the going gets tough.

Dagg deserves a crack and at very least introduced into the AB camp.
