I always loved Stan Pilecki's retort on that 84 Grand Slam tour. One early morning when Jones had the team running around the oval, as he yelled instruction, the Parrot tried to get Stan moving a bit quicker.

"C'mon Stan! Movement is good for weight loss!"

To which Stan replied "Yep, and you're living proof. No double chin!"

Although to be fair to Jones, I don't think the comparison to Hitler is fair.

He may have a great presence, but I don't have much time for what Jones says, though. Then again, I'm not exactly young and virile (anymore?), either.

I always loved Fitzsimons' quote on Jones (I'm paraphrasing here):
"We had a personality clash. He didn't have one."

I agree with everything you say there Ash. Jones is a very good motivator. Even his detractors agree with that. He talked to us about commitment. He asked us to think about why we play the game and what we want to achieve each time we run out, in each collision, contact, each time we get the ball etc. He also gave the analogy of the pig and the chicken in relation to bacon and eggs. The chicken is involved, the pig is committed.

Very old and very stale. Martina Navratilova was big on quoting that analogy in the 1980s. :)
