AIC Rugby 2022

Stop stirring the pot. Each school goes through ups and downs with results. The MCA year 11 and 12 cohort weren't expected to be very strong. The Laurie's side was outstanding. Strong forwards, well drilled and two outstanding centres. Four years ago it was doom and gloom for Laurie's rugby. They were beaten 97-0 in a trial against Marist. Excellent turn around in their firsts program.

The current Marist Coach is a premiership winning coach for GPS at QLD Premier Level. Hardly a mug and on paper the best in the AIC competition.

It's schoolboy footy FFS.
Yep the current coach is a good bloke and well credentialled but let's be honest. Getting ash to be competitive in the aic comp shouldn't be hard given the school.

Records speak for themselves Milsey had St Eddie's winning then went to ash and turned their lack of recent premierships at first xv into gold and they are struggling since. Which other coach can show that success at a perennial loosing school- and convert at a school that should dominate year to year (and did under him)?

Sure cohorts are weaker/stronger and that's where coaching to the team strengths comes into it.

Gents IMHO SLCs improvement can be put down to 4 elements. The New Brady hall so boys can train on-site. The new Headmaster who after the 97 nil day said it is ok to lose but we have to be competitive. Sean OConnor head of S & C and DuPlessis the first XV coach.

Ash will come back they are too well resourced not to.

My own opinion on SLC is that the cattle have steadily improved. But that the cattle can never win without a quality coach. Well done SLC coaching staff...keep it up

Dave Miles was outstanding at both schools. He is a huge loss for Marist. The majority of parents were surprised and disappointed at his forced departure. Huge loss.

Marist won 4 in a row. There was going to be a downturn, last year they came second. Who knows where they will finish this year. Just can't see the point in bagging the current school coaching staff.

From what I saw on Saturday, they dominated every other game from year 9 up. (Didn't see the other grades).
The seconds won 40 something to 5.The 10A's has a good win minus Tom Howard. A good indicator for the next couple of years.

Pretty bloody boring competition if Marist wins every year. Great to see St Eddies get up over St Pats. Laurie's are clearly a class above this year. The remaining teams will have some ding dong battles to settle second.

Once again well done to the Lauries coaching staff.

Milesy would have had his firsts squad training since last year instead they looked like they had been training for a month and it shows with the lack of chemistry and execution through the team. No big set pieces the lineout wasn’t brilliant. A postive for MCA was there scrumming though.

MCA player Harry Gould out for the season
Can anyone confirm this??? Would be a huge setback for the MCA forward pack considering his experience and skill at the higher level. Do they have any serious replacements if he was to be out? I've heard MCA have a 6'6 second rower in the 2's, he's quite 'lanky', so maybe shifting him into the second row and trying to move someone for Prop Cover? MCA might be in shambles if Gavin and Gould are out for the season.

Yeah real game of halves out at St. Peter’s yesterday. Padua really struggled with a lot of dropped ball and looked very disjointed in the first half mainly due to the pressure st p were putting on them. St Peter’s were very clinical and their fullback was on song with all his tactical kicks, he was their best player by far during the game. They even had a player yellow carded in the first half but still managed to score while he was off. However what ever was said at halftime in the Padua camp must of worked, maybe Phil Gould was contacted to do a halftime speech. All of sudden Padua were keeping possession and that then forced st p to lose discipline and two more yellow cards were dished out. This took its toll on st p as Padua kept putting points on the board. Things came down to the wire with 2 min to go and Padua holding a one point lead. St p had their chances but Padua held on to win a very exciting finish to the game. Padua best on field was their front rower and scrum half. Next week will be a another tough game in st Laurie’s good luck to all the lad’s.
Thanks for the detailed match report Bledisloe. I arrived slightly late to the game so missed the first 10 min. St Peters really blew that opportunity at 21-5 halftime score. As you said the discipline from St Peters really cost them the game, they were so fired up and the intensity was on point in the first half with plenty of on field chat. Credit to Padua for fighting back, funny how things happen when you hold on to the ball and ask questions of the defense. Not sure if I was seeing this right but the front rower for Padua was actually throwing the ball in for the lineout, and he did a pretty good job of it as well. The hooker never once threw in throughout the game. Padua was a bit lucky near the end of the game as St Peters almost scored with a min to go.....again credit to Padua defense. The boys were all out on their feet, even saw the Padua front rower throw up on the field...now that is a sign of the effort put in......this week game will be a cracker against the Laurie boys.

Villa proving people wrong again this year gents. I was out to see them play Iona on Saturday and Villas forward pack led by James Sullivan completely rolled over Iona. Sullivan was lethal in the lineout with 3 defensive steals. Jeremy Trappet was Iona's best by far, followed by Jack Leo and Sully Hoad. The scenes when Villas Connor Moloney scored the winning try is what schoolboy rugby is about. Villa must move past this win though as Peters seem like no walkovers, with their strong performance against Padua. Expected another cracker this week at Villa Park.

Pretty sure the boy you are referring to in the 2nds went to Padua in his earlier school days, along the same blood line as Aiden Hunter.

News was Ekham Sosa was suspended Round 1 - Big for a 10, but his quickness is his biggest attribute. First year at the school after coming from NSW (Not sure what school specifically). Will be good to see how he plays.

I was speaking to some Villa people in the know and they told me that this Villa Cohort (Year 11 and 12) have never beaten Iona in either grade - ever. Since Year 5 type stuff apparently.

If that is true then it puts the result into sharp relief as people have been talking about a strong Iona team this year and maybe this says Villa could be a darkhorse?

Villa also just lost to MCA in the trial. Still as Rugbytragic says Peters are no pushover, round 2 will be a cracker.

Thoughts on Padua vs Lauries this weekend?
If Padua bring out their 2nd half against peters they may be in for a chance...
Without a doubt padua seem to lack sparks and size in the backline which could hurt them though the SLC 12 is just another level above everyone there 13 gets made look good because of him

Joe Woods goes alright in his own right. The Lauries 10, 12, 13 are all big boys.
