Pats certainly gave it to Padua and were the better team for most of the game despite spending a lot of it in defense. The momentum only appeared to change with about 15 minutes to go when Padua scored their second off the back of a Pats mistake.

Some great games being played over the weekend very nice to see some school back to there very best.
I heard of some Injuries this weekend?
Fabris - Injured Shoulder out for 1 or 2 weeks I believe
Rafter - Re-Injured can anyone confirm?
Feeney - Ankle out for the rest of the season? Can anyone confirm?

Fairly sure Fabris was an injured shoulder, however apparently it was a precaution to rest him against Villa so he's near 100% for Padua.
Not sure where there Rafter injury came from - seemed to be fine all through his run in the game on the weekend.

Iona V Eddies– tough one to call – good hard fought win for Iona over SLC last week will give them confidence and Eddies could use some – or have they just played the two form sides of the competition in the first two rounds? Expect Eddies to be better (much like Iona after their trial smashing) – will go with the home side.
Peters V Lauries – hard to go against the lads from SPLC. Expect tougher resistance but if the Peters backs get in the groove it could be more of the same. Lauries tried hard at home but will struggle away this week – stay with the home sides.
Villa V Pats – not sure what is happening at Villa but suspect it’s a combination of issues rather than laying the blame at any one person’s feet. Pats were in it for a long time against Padua and I expect a healthy improvement to their “for and against” position after this weekend.
Ashgrove V Padua – much will be written on this thread this week so I will keep it short – based on form this year (not last year or when they were in Year 8) I will go with Ashgrove – I think the forwards will be very even but Ashgrove’s backs will have too much “zing” for Padua.

Blame the refs, nice work. The penalty count was pretty even I would suggest. It's easy to blame the referees, rather than having a good look at the teams being prepared by the relevant coaches. There are always dubious decisions, however the referee is on the field, close to the action and we are not. Ashgrove did what they had to do to win. That was enough to put on 74 points.

I'm assuming that you're joking.
If anything I thought that the ref kept the scoreline down, awarding numerous penalties against Ashgrove's dominant scrum (which may or may not have been technically correct) and not playing much advantage, but on the whole he was pretty fair.
My impression of the Ash v Villa game was that Ashgrove barely got out of second gear, and unfortunately Villa were pretty abysmal.
Ashgrove should be much stronger in the forwards this week with Rafter and Fabris returning to the front row, but they will need to play with much greater intensity and urgency if they're going to roll Padua on Saturday.
Any news on the injury to the Ash 7, Jenkins? Jenkins missing on Saturday would be a big boost for Padua.
Man on the hill, not that it matters, as boarders have been a fabric of the culture of Ashgrove since its inception in 1950. Have a look at the squad that played on Saturday, do your research and you will see that these boys have been playing for GPS, league for Samford, Arana Hills and the like since they were in primary school. I'm not sure of the breakdown of boarders to day students because I don't care and it is irrelevant. No one is overly excited about the one sided scores being put on some teams this year. I think everyone would want to see closer games each weekend.

The Villanova team has an obvious underlying issue, and i'm sure it will come to air soon enough. But i still believe they can win a handful of games this season. In round 4 they face Lauries and as always i believe it will be a tough game
My understanding is that the Villa coaches are contracted.. Given this I would expect better results...

I watched the Iona trial against Villa and Iona certainly used it as a proper trial with several certain starters coming off the bench. The result was irrelevant and Iona will easily account for Villa in the last game of the season.
The Iona performance against Ashgrove in the trial was appalling, with a real lack of commitment from the Iona boys. However, there were a couple of regulars out including Nathan Marshall who is usually their best forward.
Lauries will beat Villa this weekend on their performance against Iona last week. Their bigger forwards were well held by Iona's small pack and the score was only close because of a disallowed try (placed on the line) and a couple of dubious decisions which would have seen Iona win by more.
Villa have a few injuries to players who should have played 1st's, but there are obviously deeper issues. The fact that they seem to only field one rugby team in the u15 age group and lots of football teams says the issue is the talent pool coming through.
Iona should account for Eddies this week. It will be interesting to see if they select Brandt Quinn in the 1st's - he came on late in the game after Feeney was injured and was a standout. He also scored a hatrick in the seconds so doing a lot right. Not sure what the go is with Feeney's injury.

Yes Tahs, the Villa 2nd XV holds multiple players who could easily be starting firsts, but it appears that there is certain issues preventing them from.

Considering Iona are looking for a definite bottom 4 finish, i fail to see how you believe Iona will "Easily account for Villa in the last game of the season". If Villa sort out their issue they will definitely be competitive in their final 3 games of the season.

Yes, Iona are certainly looking at a bottom 4 spot, behind Ash, Pad, Pats, and Peters, but I believe they will be at the top of the bottom 4.
I hope Villa sorts out their issue and are competitive for their final 3 games- the competition needs closer results. Would love to see a close game for Villa and Iona irrespective of who wins. As a Villa old boy it irks me to see the standard slipping so much.
I still don't see Villa matching it with Padua in the second last game of the season, and will still have my money on Iona in the last.

Iona lost Ben Fox and Lloyd Gorman to BSHS, both would have been playing 1st's this year as would have Tristan Stanghon who left for Churchie. It isn't possible for schools such as Iona and Villa and Lauries to compete with offers from these schools, and I'm sure the other AIC schools face similar problems.
The referees are not normally supplied by the school so it is hard to work out where better ones could come from.
The behavior of some of the coaches certainly would discourage anyone contemplating becoming a referee.
I didn't think the referring was too bad but could be wrong... for me the biggest issue is the gap between the top teams Padua/Ashgrove and the remainder.
Cant think of a solution though, promotion (to GPS for premiership winning XV) /relegation system (for last place GPS team), would be too complex given the turnover of players after each year. Longer seasons would only extend the pain..
