As for the AIC team last year, players like kent and palolua, who is playing for the reds this weekend, boosted that team.
I think you mean Scott Malolua? Scott's a Premier Grade halfback for Ashgrove GPS is benching for the Queensland Reds for this weekends exhibition match and Jono Kent is playing for U20 Canberra Raiders this year and was the fullback for the U18's QLD origin side that curtain raised the main game last night.

I agree that they boosted the sides but weren't you upset by the supposed bias for Ashgrove players? You've confused me here. What's to say that these players aren't going to step up and make a name of themselves from these trails like these two boys did?

actually, an observer from outside the AIC altogether. this comment people are making about gps not playing enough rugby is simply false, all teams were training by early term 1, whilst some like acgs and nudgee having been playing games since before christmas. not to mention all the club rugby. i am by no means saying sorridimi or ryan are bad players, but front rower's in the gps like sikimeti and pleash are both favoured for yet another year of representing their state at open level. as for duma, he faces the momentous task of facing loane or filiea (Ioane already having played one year at the national tournament). As for the AIC team last year, players like kent and palolua, who is playing for the reds this weekend, boosted that team. Some serious depth issues in that AIC 1 Team, particularly the back line and back row with exceptions for humphries. even the gold oldie jordan perese has past his expiry.

you can train as much as you want but we all know it simply does not substitute for actual game time. It'll be interesting to see how the GPS boys fair and if the lack of 'real' playing time will hinder their performance. Or it could be same old same old, where they come out and are simply too quick, too strong, too athletic and have a number of individuals who are simply a class above. GPS players have always been more highly touted but I wouldn't write off these boys just yet as the game is not played on reputation.

Any tips for 2013 season?
Ashgrove and Peters will be the teams to beat. Ashgrove winning undefeated premiers in the 16A's with 3 and sometime 4 of there key players out for the season being in the firsts. WHile peters have alot of 16's in their firsts, however their 16A's aren't all that strong.

Any idea of a firsts team for SLC as there was no under 16's player in the run on team until the last game with Canham and Gallaher.

Yes that is true. So three key teams being, Ashgrove, Iona and Peters?

Try not to leave Lauries out of the radar.Ash almost lost to them defending at their 5m line for almost half of the second Half. Great defence from the Ash fowards. The only thing ash lacks is speed in the back line which is where st peters may have an advantage in. But there will probably be a new lad who will be on the John Eales scholarship, not sure where he will play but he will definetly be in a position where the current 16As lack which is probably on the wing or outside centre. Although with 5 grade 11 players in the first, Ash will have A very tough time against Iona ( Dawson, Wilkin) and Peters ( Bennett, kepa, and aiden).

A really uninformed view but if SLC have no year 11's in a team that has only one won game going into rd 7, one would assume that surely the age group cannot be that strong if they can't get any players in until round 7 (in a team that has only won one game). I did see SLC 15's though and they were impressive with some exceptionally quick outside backs so I think their team will feature a lot of 15s

lauries do have one of the strongest forward packs, if not the strongest forward pack in the 16s age group though

SLC have very good halves in Lachlan Gray and Matt Canham and also Bryce Edwards can fill in spots if needed. Laurie's 16's forwards are big and strong with plenty of power and experience. The issue in the team is the outside backs. My tip for SLC first XV next season is
1.Franko Abdalla
2.Bryce Doran
3.Logan Fleming
4. Connor Cooley
5. Matt Pigott
6. Paora-Nui TouAriki
7. Will Dwyer
8. Declan Kay
9. Lachie Gray
10.Matt Canham
11.Luke Gallaher
12. Ian Filipo
13. Bryce Edwards
14. Jordan Bayne
15. Jayden Leavers

Big forwards and definetly some speed out wide.

The centers are questionable in defense though but Jayden Leavers played inside for 16A's this year put on some of the biggest hits in the games.

Even though Matt Canham and Luke Gallaher played one game for the firsts hopefully they will carry that experience into next year and become leaders of the team with Lachie gray and Paora-Nui benching every game this season for the firsts

Being a good player in one competition does not mean you will be good in the other. Dean was a great player with his speed but lacked ball security and defence.

this is true but he was surely good enough to get a spot in he Ashgrove 1st 15, there wingers werent spectacular to say the least

Dean surely would have had nothing on Nathan Bassani (AIC 1). Although Dean had size he did not match Nathans skills especially in defence. He would have had Harry Cuneo's spot but the coaches thought otherwise.

Agreed, the Laurie's forward pack is observably the most dominant forward pack in AIC and have been for several years now. The forwards lead by example, especially number 8 Declan Kay, number 6 Paora-Nui and seconds rowers Conor Cooley and Matt Pigott. The rucking game combined with excellent line outs and scrums are a strong aspect of the Laurie's game. This then sets the field up for the backs to give their extremely quick wingers a good run. Examples of this is Luke Gallaher scoring numerous tries throughout the season with his exceptional speed

But then you would wonder how Lauries struggled against Ashgrove when they had only 14 players on the field while missing out on 4 key players who were in the 1st. They are a pretty average group.

Lauries was down to 14 for the same amount of time that Ashgrove were down to 14 except for the last minute of the game. So you can't really use that as an excuse

That's what I heard too. I wasn't at the game but I heard the Laurie's fullback was yellow carded at the same time as the Ashgrove boy was carded. I heard that Laurie's deserved to win but there were some poor decisions made and also a few dodgy referee calls. This is apparently what lost Laurie's the game

They still had a full team in the last minute correct? The how did "The Best AIC forward Pack" not concede a point? The decision by the "dodgy" referee was just and you could even see the players leg step out.
