Being minor premiers one would think that reds squads members are more likely to have displayed better form at a certain point during out 2012....

You obviously aren't going to have many players displaying good form and skills in a losing team are you?
Its the reason the Tahs have made up the bulk of the Wallabies squad the past 5-6 years..

Yeah, but they are the Tahs and so their players are automatically better.

Why is it that there is always a fringe Red player better than anyone else in any other province?

We need another thread discussing whether the colour of a player's jersey adds 20kgs to his play. GAGR seems to be in consensus that the reds development squad would be favorites for the world cup.

If that seems like an exagerration, I point you to the discussion on whether gill is better than pocock based on his performance yesterday Arvo.

I'm ot trying to stir shit, but I have to agree with you hawko.

Dennis is one of the guys in the Tahs who seems to have benefited from the extra muscle put on during the pre-season because he doesn't seem to have lost his mobility. Douglas has suffered very badly indeed, no where near as dynamic as last year and doesn't get through nearly as much work. What are the thoughts on Mowen putting on the weight? I'm more convinced now than I was at the start of the season, but deep down I think that I preferred him from the last couple of years when he used to cover the ground and link better, great for a drive through though.

I think you're right about the "no. 8 on your back" effect. Hickey obviously knows where he wants from his Eighth-man to get involved, and that is right in tight.

Al Baxter was such a quality player and deserved to be in the Wallabies for all those years. By the way how many Super Rugby titles have the Tahs won?

I agree...

I wouldn't have let Chris Latham near a Wallaby jersey in 2007 after being a part of that Reds' wooden spoon team...

Bit early to herald the Reds as minor premiers next year.

I don't think much can be taken from this game, the two teams went out playing like it was touch foot all to start with, Dennis needs a go in s tight game against a opposition who put up a fight

I actually had to go back to the fixtures list because I thought I'd imagined it, but there it was - round 16; Reds 14 - Brumbies 22.
That's only just over 2 weeks ago right? And if I remember it was the Brumbies pack that did a great job on the Minor Premiers.

Anyhow, I thought the game on Sat was pretty brutal at the collisions actually, and that within it Dennis played a blinder.
When I did the post about the stats for Rocky's replacement a coupla weeks back I thought he was a bit of a bolter, but actually I reckon he's probably clearly out front now. Runs the metres, does the work and scores the tries.

I'd be curious to see big D get a shot at the back of the scrum at some point for the Wobs. We won't know what our best options are untill we try a few of these players and my candidates would be Dennis, Vaea, Samo and maybe Mowen.

I think Dennis and Vaea are still a season away. Dennis is still improving, Vaea is pretty green.

Don't throw them in until they're ready unless we have to.

Is it at all possible for a thread discussion to actually follow the original post, even remotely?

I'm sure some of you will tell me not to read if I don't like, but every single fucking thread seems to have morphed into a state bias thread. I'm just waiting for the Top14 thread to become a Reds/Tahs pillow fight.

Change the fucking record, please.....

One run against what was a pretty poor opposition playing in a game that had no bearing on their season... in a team winning by 40 points, is not a great measuring stick.

Except for the small matter of being out of the semis if they lost. But apart from that piddling little trifle, it was a nothing game.

Indeed the Brumbies did beat the Reds 2 weeks ago, surely thats irrelevant though.. There are plenty of examples in 2011 where the underdog has triumphed over the favourite... im sure i dont need to bring them up again

I just think that the Brumbies last performance is a poor example of a opposition to gaugue ones overall value against, its been said before, annoiting a person the next saviour after just one performance happens far too often on this forum, im trying to bring a piece of reality to the equation.

Agreed. I think we're just overstepping the mark. Gillomania was probably a little excessive, the talk about Timani came close too.

Don't worry about state bias. Won't be long and we'll be forking into the Kiwis.

Back to Dennis...

It will be interesting to see how he goes through the finals if he continues to get solid gametime...

Let's not forget that he's already been part of the Wallaby setup, and toured Europe so it's not like he's come out of nowhere...

And I'm pretty keen to look at options that are not Higgonbotham, Mumm or playing 2 opensides...

No mate, not talking about Waratahs season... talking about Dennis playing in a game against an opposition who had nothing to play for. I thought it was pretty clear what my point was but it seems to have confused a few.
