A nationwide petition to have Kearns removed from commentating?

With all QPR games being played live and SS game of the round there is scope for some new people to show something.

As long as it is not Cameron Shepherd. That bloke is a dribbler.

Youtube and the internet is where we should look, really.

Crowdsource a new commentary team - hold a competition, the short list get to trial a few games and we can all vote on them, the winners get a job.

Even match analysis - the best stuff by far are youtube channels like Squidge etc. They're probably happy making coin on their own now but there's plenty of talent out there to be found.

Not a fan of mob cancels

How is that the case here? We literally have no choice but to listen to Kearns. The alternative is to mute the TV complete which makes the viewing experience horrible.

The general public aren't calling for him to be kicked off because of one action or something he said in mistake, more they do not find any value in him being on the TV. He can still commentate for all I care, I just give me a choice on who I can listen to then.

Honey Badger
Sean Maloney
Greg Clarke (For serious stuff)

That's the prefect commentary team

They are a commercial company who can choose whoever they want and you can watch or not, or watch with the sound off

I dislike the basic premise of petitions to get people sacked

FP even a commercial operation should take notice of the views being expressed by their customers. If Fox feel that they don't need to remove Kearns, then what sort of feedback are they getting about him?

They can - they can also listen to their customers who want something different from the service they pay for.

I tend to agree with you, though, About getting people sacked. If this particular person hadn't spear headed the crusade to get the person who beat him to the CEO role sacked. But he did and so he frankly if they manage to chase him out he deserves it.

One would assume they are testing regularly and they keep giving him a contract

"Views of customers" meh, anyone who has done any stats knows that a self selecting mob is in no way a representative sample of their customers

It is a bunch of Karens wanting to talk to the manager

Yeah, must admit FP normally I would be 100% with you.

But there does appear a certain justice in this .... he who lives by the sword and all that.

Edit: Haha - I guess I am a Karen then.

Or it's a bit of an old boys' club and the guys in the job are willing to do it for very little remuneration because they don't actually need the job.

I've said it before in this thread but there's a reason why the remaining commentators are a) old and b) have other highly paying careers as their day job.

It is probably both, and cheap is always good

Pass it to Dunning!

Frankly, I'm unconvinced that there's a better alternative out there. For all the complaints about Kearns' negativity, I don't think a person who is positive about rugby exists in Australia. Everybody in Australian rugby is a whinger. It's ingrained in the fan culture.

And we underestimate just how difficult it is to do live sport commentary. It's a really specialist skill. It only seems easy because everybody who does it says something stupid or obvious every now and again. Sure, Kearns is full of himself, but who are the alternatives? Gregan, Mitchell, Turinui and Eales have all done it and have been as dull as dishwater.

I was thinking the same thing myself. I’m not a fan of any of the commentators but who are better options who are proven? Horan and Burke also get ribbed, they say dumb and obvious things off the cuff and have no idea about forwards play, but on the other hand have a really good read on the open play, as was their skill when playing.

PS I’m with Fatprop on the cancel culture. Sure, call people out but petitioning them to get sacked is low level low.
