Know very little about him T78, given that I don't follow the sport religiously. But I can tell you that as a group our sailors have done very well over the years.
Currently sitting on three golds, and a silver, from four Olympics. Would have been four golds if, as a nineteen year old, he'd stayed away from Scheidt on the startline in Atlanta. To give you an idea about him; the pre-Olympics in Qingdhao, he hadn't sailed a Finn since the last Olympics, because he'd been sailing America's Cup with the Kiwis (and sailing better than Dean Barker, by all accounts). Ainslie rocks up, and destroys the fleet - who've been training and sailing non-stop since 2000 - so comprehensively he won with a day to spare, from memory.
He was off with Team Origin up until recently. He's now, despite being ranked 133 in the world, in fifth in the event in Perth, and in with a serious shot at winning, and an excellent chance of a podium finish. He's already ahead of the Finn World Champion. That off virtually no training. When he's back training full time, the rest are toast.

He's terrifying. He is, unquestionably, on track to be the best since Paul Elvstrom.
Now, Tom Slingbsy is a decent shout for you in the Lasers; but Goodison is coming back, too. The Brits' strength in depth in Olympic sailing is just scary.
