Im also worried about what will happen if the irish turn up to play like they did against france and england. They sometimes have an intensity about their game which can be hard to match.

FUCK!!

I cant believe we lost composure was lacking in the half backs and we lost a bit with Tom Palmer going off. Hopefully Deacon will be dropped now and we can have lawes back.

Ireland played well though so fair play to them, Tommy Bowe was a constant threat all night and we couldn't contain him

A brief and to the point wrap-up of the 2011 6 Nations:

Fucking Welsh. All you had to do was beat the Frenchies by 27 points to deny a Pom championship. And you couldn't even do that.

Many thanks to the Irish for stepping up to the plate. Age shall not weary them indeed. See you boys in September for a cracking group game.

As for the Italians; Single best result of the championship for many a year in my eyes against the French, it was a joy to watch. Keep going lads, next year let's see you tip a few more over.

And the Scots? Pretty invisible this year I'm afraid. Is Robinson the messiah?

England arse raped at the breakdown. It was beautiful to watch

Wallace was, in any sane assessment, MotM; in the last ten minutes of the first half, he had England in a state of flat-out terror, just on his own. POC not far behind, SOB and DOC not far behind them. Those four effectively beat England on their own, because given the quality of the ball, any competent set of backs could have put it away. To be blunt, we left it go, because if we'd kept our heads and kept it up, it could have been a cricket score.

I thought that too..

happy days! pity it was the last night and we have nothing to lose the heads about for a while notw.. good to set a bar for future performances.

What are your picks for the loose forwards for the WC now?

7 Wallace; 6 or 8 SOB, but he's in there, regardless, as he's thriving being in DW's company; and for 6, if Ferris is fit, well, I could be very, very tempted to move SOB to 8 - where he plays tolerably often anyway, and for which he has the skill-set - put Ferris 6 and go on one maa-hoooo-sive breakdown-wrecking expedition. Heaslip is certainly the weakest link there at the moment.

For those interested, here are the final standings at the end of this year's tournament:

Also as an amusing little coda to things:

RFU embarrassed by Grand Slam ad

The RFU has denied that England took the challenge posed by Ireland lightly after an embarrassing advertisement celebrating the Grand Slam was leaked.

The video, produced by their official kit supplier Nike, shows several players, among them Toby Flood, Chris Ashton and Ben Foden, in a series of action clips.

England were hammered 24-8 by Declan Kidney's side in Dublin on Saturday to end their hopes of a first clean sweep since 2003, making a mockery of the advert's final frame, an image of the red rose emblem on top of a caption reading 'Grand Slam Champions 2011'.

The photo shoot for the footage took place midway through the Six Nations, which England won despite their rout in Dublin. The RFU explained that filming the advert in advance was necessary for commercial reasons and have denied Ireland were taken too lightly.

"The RFU works with all its commercial partners on their sponsorship activation," a statement read. "Forward planning is a crucial part of all commercial partnerships and all contingencies, winning or losing, have to be considered.

"It is disappointing that details of Nike's internal planning has got into the public domain. In no way did the RFU or the England team underestimate the challenge that the Ireland team would pose. We were well beaten by a team who played better and we have the utmost respect for [Ireland coach] Declan Kidney and the Irish players."

The official ad got yanked off of YouTube earlier today, but here it is anyhow:

Guys, a work question, in that one of the guys at work ask this of me, and I couldn't answer.

he said during the Pom v Paddy game, the commentators were raving about the Irish and said they were "Scavanging like they are the last man in hell" or something equally inspiring. Anyone get the actual text?

Ah the Welsh. Disappointing their Celtic brothers for the last 1000 years.

Those P-Celt wimps? Pffffft. 1,500 years of being bitch-whipped by the Saeson and counting. They'll moan about it, but damn all else will they do unless you're a holiday cottage in Clwyd. And the Gogs up there don't even play rugby, preferring incest and gargling. The Turks are all baby-eaters, and as for the rest of the M4 corridor where they actually play rugby, even the Turks know they're just Saeson who can hold a tune.

This post brought to you by the Gwlad Munster Massive - boiling the piss of those on the east of the Irish Sea since 2008. ;)

Well, let's put it into perspective. While Ireland played a very good game, they won a game at home against a team they should have felt comfortable to beat.

If that is classified the mother and father of all performances in the northern hemisphere, then the 3N sides have nothing to fear come September.

Vile Nugent? That cretin? At one stage, he came out, seamlessly and unabashedly, with the following: "It's all set up to wide now, they're going wide, and D'Arcy takes it back in on a great angle..."

The man's a dingbat par excellence.

since when have the 3N's ever had anything to fear? Perspective is for another day...

Nobody actually would fully believe that it was literally the mother and father of all performances. Just a nice turn of phrase I thought. If we were all worried about perspective the whole time then things would be rather bland would they not?

That was a good win by Ireland. Some of the players had their best game of the tournament including one of my favourites, David Wallace, who yours truly said earlier in the season may have been past his best. He has a 7 on his back but is an abrasive player and strong runner unlike any we see in Oz unless a Saffer team is in town.

8 Heaslip has had some poor games in this 6N but was good against the Poms. Oz fans won't know a lot about 6. Sean O'Brien, who sometimes plays 8 for Leinster, unless they watch the Magners League and Heineken Cup. He's probably the form backrow ball runner in Europe this season and breaks tackles like a big bopper 10 kgs heavier.

This backrow tore the Poms a new one.

It was good to see Earls get a chance at fullback, his best position, after Fitzgerald failed once too often. He didn't get the ball a lot but each time he got it he made exactly the right choice. The back three was superior to the Poms with 15. Foden being particularly poor for them. Sexton had his best game of the series but why he was picked to start was a mystery.

The scrum was good and improved throughout the 6N under Greg Feek. 3. Mike Ross is a bit of a pot plant around the park but is becoming a good scrum anchor. The backs played well but their coach Alan Gaffney has a bit to answer for over the series. Not Les Kiss though: give or take the Ireland defence was terrific.

Head coach Declan Kidney won't have a great review. Earls should have been at 15. earlier and some of the swapping of ROG and Sexton beggared belief. The early substitution of ROG against Wales could have cost the game when Sexton's sliced kick into touch introduced the wrong ball lineout play. Deccie's game plan against Wales was particularly poor, whatever it was. Rope-a-dope worked well in the Rumble In The Jungle but it didn't answer on the swampy surface of Millennium Stadium.

The Ireland players will be asking: what if? What if D'Arcy hadn't missed Rougerie in one tackle when Ireland lost by 3 to France; what if the touchie saw that the quick throw-in to Phillips of Wales to “score a try” was with the wrong ball; what if Paddy Wallace had passed the pill later in the game instead of stepping inside to get a better position for a conversion that would win the game, but never was, because he was stopped short.

England were crap as they were against the Boks in the autumn and they weren't much beating Scotland a few weeks ago. They hardly ever threatened the Ireland line and their only try was from an interception by the genial Fatty Thompson. Their mid-field was so impotent in creating chances for themselves or others that Ireland fullback Earls didn't have to make a tackle the whole game.

To be fair it is an inexperienced team by Pom standards and without the likes of the injured Moody and Tindall, and with Wilko, Thompson and Shaw not starting, you could see the lack of leadership. The performance of the halves, Flood and Youngs, added to the headless chook impression. Their little triangle moves involving Ashton were read by Ireland like a comic book.

There has been some poor rugby in this 6N though some games have been exciting. I don't think any of the teams stepped up except Italy, though Ireland finished the best of them.
