2nd Test Wallabies v France 8pmTuesday 13th July,

I’m not so much defending Gordon. I thought he was poor - but I thought he was very good, when fit, during Super Rugby. And I don’t think it is always necessary to punt guys after 1 bad outing. I’m personally okay with him being retained.

Honestly, I think the fact we won is clouding the judgment of a lot of people.

Imagine if Gordon played like that on a match deciding Bledisloe. There is absolutely no way in hell would anyone want him touching a gold jersey.

Why shouldn't there be repercussions for not performing?

There should be. Absolutely. But IMO Gordon has been the form half all year and has had one bad game. I’m not an advocate of knee-jerk selection policies or a ‘one strike and your out approach’.

Is there a player in the team who hasn’t had a shocker at some point?

There should be. But every Wallaby in history has put in a Barry. Point being Rennie has picked what he thinks our best team is from the available options and he’s forgiving what some players put out on the first game day in favour of the reasons he picked them in the first place and has decided not to throw the baby out with the bath water. You seem obsessed with Gordon taking Tate’s spot, but I’ll even give Banks a 12th chance.

Sure and I agree about a knee jerk response, which is why I would prefer the bloke who is coming back from a serious injury to be doing it from the bench.

That’s bizarre. I was on dinner duty so it was a while in between when I started composing my reply until when I actually posted it and you basically said the same thing!

Bamba drops out of the front row to the bench. A whole new 2nd row and Diallo replaces Cretin at 6. The backline is exactly the same though. Jaminet the fullback gets another go after his impressive start last week. He doesn’t even play in France’s top league which is pretty nuts.

Not so crazy. Would Banks be good enough for the Top 14?

For all of the time that they were both at the Tahs that was true - although there was one year I think it was line ball.

But I don’t recall Phipps ever playing as well for the Tahs in his time there as Gordon did this year.

I bet Gordon would have looked pretty good playing behind Potgeiter, Douglas and Palu and passing the ball out to Foley, Beale and Folau.

I'm not sure we need to change much tactically for this game. I don't think that was our problem last week, it was execution - inaccurate kicking, dropped balls, poor cleanouts and defensive reads.

You'd hope that we step up even a fraction, we can look to put real pressure on France and win the game. Our set piece functioned well and we created enough opportunities to score.

Knowing the Wallabies though, we'll kick brilliantly but lose 80% of our lineouts.

Pretty sure Tate had one, awful box kick.

Tate's first kick went out on the full. He shook his head for about 10 seconds and wiped blood off his split lip.

His work directing the charge around the ruck and getting the French ruck defenders moving sideways was some of the best attack of the game. His work from the lineout at the end to regain the ball was quality. He sprinted to the spot and pressured the French bloke and came up with the ball. If he didn't do that it was game over. I get that Rennie is trying to iron out Tate's flaws and is not rewarding him until he does - he'll be the better for it.

Gordon surprised me with his early Supe AU form. He hasn't got close to it since returning from injury.
