2020 Super Rugby Round 1 (REDUX): Reds v Waratahs

Up the Guts

I'd say the opposite. You want teams that otherwise might not be fancied to compete, to outdo their reputation and to push the favoured team. Then we get better. It has kept the NZ conference stronger to have more teams that contend.
I don't think they will, however.
The issue is I just can’t see the Tahs playing the football that would push the Reds, if they are in the contest it will likely be because they grind the Reds down to their level. I’m happy to be surprised but I won’t be totally disappointed even as a Tahs fan if the Reds put the Tahs to the sword.

Speak for yourself. I want the Tahs to lose by 1000.

Does anyone have an update on the availability of Petaia, BPA, Hoopert & Fotuaika?

Last I saw Paisami and Wilson were back and ready to go, Petaia had a while to go still. Not sure on the others.

Also, do I understand correctly that Speights’ release isn’t immediate and that he will be able to play at least part of the comp?

BPA is really the guy we most need back as hooker is where we have the least coverage.

Pending other returns, I would see a team something like -
Smith, Mafi, Tupou, Blyth, Salakai-Loto, Wright, Scott-Young, Wilson, McDermott, O’Connor, Speight/Petaia/CFS, Stewart, Paisami, Daugunu, Campbell
Bench Zander, BPA, Nasser, ?? - presumably Wood or Smith, McReight, Malolua, Hegarty, CFS or ???

Gallen to address Waratahs on the Origins of interstate hate

He was responsible for an act of State of Origin aggression he admitted "ruined" rugby league and now Blues great Paul Gallen will address the Waratahs dressing room on interstate hate ahead of the Super Rugby opener between NSW and Queensland next weekend.
The former NSW captain was invited into the Waratahs team room at Daceyville on Thursday to talk to the young NSW group about his experiences of the cross-border rivalry before the Waratahs face the Reds at Suncorp Stadium next Friday night.
